A happy Saturday morning

Picked up the car from Tower Porsche this morning where it was in to have a replacement gearbox fitted. Also had new plugs, ignition leads, air filter etc. While they were swapping the gearbox they also replaced all the bushings and bits of the linkages. Thanks to Elliot for supplying what the shop said seems to be a very good gearbox.

The gear change is completely transformed. Lovely and precise now. The constant noise from the gearbox is gone, funny what you can get used to. So i'm very happy at the moment!

funny they told me you were there. I also picked mine up, probably at a much higher cost lol. 4 weeks and £2k later I finally have my car. New radiator and cylinder head as the old one cracked under pressure test. also no more over-boost without needing to play with any software. simple pipe adjustment and tightening. but thats probably was caused the marks on the bore lining. several experts said that it is the exact cylinder that will get all the pressure on it from over-boost. still have electrical problems with sunroof which i can't afford to investigate anymore after this bill but will be done at some point

Soli - cheer up mate FFS, you've got the car back and managed to add a negative spin to a happy post - you're coming across as the sort of guy who'd find a tenner and moan it wasn't a twenty.

I don't know who you are and why you think you have a right to say FFS to me. But never mind. I don't like angry people anyway. To reply to your nonsense, I am extremely happy to have the car back. Just not happy that I thought I found £20 and ended up realising they were fake. Maybe you want to pay me the £2k if you think I am unreasonable?

Great news Soli - you've got your car back. Now go and enjoy it!

(I won't spoil the moment by saying that this paultry £2k is just the first of many.....:)!

I forgot to add that if the sunroof issue is just a microswitch (quite likely), it's not an expensive fix, as long as the person doing it knows their stuff. Get it fixed now, ready for the summer. And remember, it's only money....

Soli, is the car running ok now then with the head and gasket replaced ?

I assume so if they've handed it back, maybe you should be asking the so called 'experts' why they were recommending a full engine rebuild initially.

As stated, the sunroof should be an easy fix to DIY so shouldn't harm your wallet at all.

I trust you will be publicly thanking Frenchy for all the assistance and parts he has supplied recently ?

Cheers, Paul

Frenchy said the sunroof is microswitch but its not. there is a problem with the electricity somewhere in the circuit. so that will cost a lot more because it needs investigation around the whole car. and I already thanked Frenchy for the HG and for helping me source the engine head. on the other hand I am 2k down after driving for 4 hours with a sunroof problem, new radiator, a leaking air conditioner (not just a gas refill as was told) and over boost that was caused (again) not by what I was told. I spoke to 5 different garages across the country. They all agreed that the bore lining issue is only going to get worse and therefore at some point will need to be addressed. and they are all right. they also all told me that it is more than likely due to the over boost so nothing to do with overheating. so bottom line i am happy having the car and i don't mind investing money in it. but i can't thank anyone selling me a car for 8k when straight away it needed 2k repairs and then there is more to do on issues which were disclosed but as minor and when i do have more money probably a head rebuild.

Soli, for the next few months, certainly as the weather hopefully improves, I would just concentrate on using the car and start enjoying the 944 experience, leave the minor details/fixes to a later date , they are just minor niggles and part of owning an older car.

We all have little things that need doing, some for general maintenance, some to keep them road worthy and then there's the OCD amongst us who just strip parts off to clean them, personally I'm considering dropping all the suspension and transaxle just to clean it and the floor.

Cheers, Paul

It was less anger and more exasperation.

For what it's worth I think Frenchy has treated you very well all things considered and whilst you have been very vocal in criticising the car I'm glad that you've finally acknowledged Frenchy's contribution (albeit after being prompted). I'm not out for an argument but I do wonder if you realise how your posts have come across in that they (perhaps unwittingly) appear to have been casting aspersions over the character of a long-standing and proven trustworthy forum contributor.

Soli was told that the aircon did not work pre sale a re-gas MAYBE ? i have never looked into it, we have a BBQ up here when it hits 10C, the sunroof has had all the components changed that would cause this the Microswitch has not been tested so this maybe the problem as was told to Soli pre sale MAYBE ?
The car was running stock software with built in overboost protection, it is fitted with a Lyndsey (Promax) boost enhancer which does not raise boost levels it only holds the wastgate closed until the facotry boost levels are reached this has caused bore scores MAYBE. ?
Overboost would hole a piston or bend a rod not cause bore score.
The cylinder head cracked due to pouring cold water into the engine when it was cooking hot after a HG failiure MAYBE ?
The car was driven from B,ham to London with a HG faiiure that was mixing the oil with water and broke down the oil lubrication capacity causing bore scoring MAYBE ?
I have gone out of my way with phone calls and running about providing spares saving a substantial amount on what was being quoted along with contributions ££ towards these parts.
Looks like i will be sorting a couple of tyres out when they wear in 18 months time.
I would not let him view until belts which were due change were done.
The car was on the lift for 10 hours plus with the engine running occasionaly to check for exhaust leaks after changing the wastegate to exhaust short pipe due to blowing, oil cooler on the diff sorted along with some extra underbody protecion applied, there were no running problems evident or they would have been attended to.
My last comment on the subject, make of it what you will.

i intend to come to leicester this summer if you are around. have lots of friends there around the Saf :)

Come on Frenchy even Kia offer a 7 year warranty. You could at least do 4 no? [8D] does warranty wise cover 944s? OPC might put you on one after their 24 pt inspection and ubiquitous "discs and pads need changing sir" and only after you have owned the car for 63 days yada yada

I've not commented on any of this on going saga. But all I will say is that if you have a car with an alloy head and block and it overheats when you still have a long way to go to get home, then phone the AA or the RAC or who ever. Do not try to fill it back up with coolant. If you do you will brake something. End of argument.

Glad the car is back up and running Ian, hope to see it soon (got your email re: Shuttleworth)

Nice to have happy days

Shame the thread was hijacked.......[:'(]
