A hello from me!

Hi guys, been doing some pretty intense reading on here and elsewhere the past week or so. Hoping to get a deal done on an 88 lux tomorrow, 73k on the clock with fsh and lots of receipts for the important things. Water pump is shot so that will be done and belts changed at the same time before purchase. There is a minor oil leak from the back of the rocker cover to address too. Car is guards red, overall in pretty good nick but I do detailing as a sideline/hobby so will have the paintwork looking tip-top.

Just wanted to thank everyone for all the useful info on here and I will hopefully be posting a lot more if tomorrow works out. Fingers crossed!

Hi Eldavo

Welcome to the forum and good luck on your new purchase.... the 944 in all it's forms is a great
car... congrats on a fine choice

Hi Eldavo

Welcome the forum and hopefully 944 ownership, they are great cars and I've met some great people through owning mine.

It's only a bit mad!

The car is at a friends garage so gave it another very thorough going over today. Recent clutch, distributor cap and tyres added to the pump and belts being done this week are all plus points. There was a receipt from an accident repair centre about 5 years ago for some minor work to the NSR wing. Used my paint thickness gauge to locate the repair and had a look inside the arch through the clip in vents, very minor and repaired exceptionally well. Looks like somebody has machine polished the roof at some point and not masked off the plastic trim at either side and subsequently taken the paint off the edge. I'll probably airbrush that back in and make sure I tape it off properly when I detail the car.

Excited now and fingers crossed the water pump will arrive this week!

Sounds great. Clutch, tyres, belts and water pump will add up to the value of a 944 nowdays, so all well worth having.

As the car is Guards Red it will have been machine polished by now in all probability. The roof, bonnet and the c-pillars will have faded unless the car was garaged all it's life. My red Lux was pretty good, the front panels and roof had been resprayed in the past, but there were the first signs of fading on one c-pillar. It'd be interesting to see pictures of what you do to the paintwork, there are a lot of red cars out there of the same age.

One door is a slightly pinker colour with some fading to the front if the panel, this is consistent with the fact that the paint is thinner here so may have been badly polished in the past. I've turned pink panels to back to glossy red before so am not too worried, I'll just have to err on the side of caution and check the paint thickness more often.

As I said, detailing is my hobby/sideline and I do have a website with a gallery. I won't post up a link for obvious reasons but I'll add it to my profile page if you want to take a look. I'll take plenty of before, during and after pics of the 944 too.

No, probably not. Whilst I am a member over there and it is great for information I don't frequent it that often. It is a bit too caught up with members wanting the latest stuff just for the hell of it as well.
