A little advice needed...

Hello,

I've started looking for my very first Porsche, and will be looking at the budget end of 996 territory. I'd really appreciate it if anyone can recommend dealers in the East Midlands or reasonably close, and also anything I should especially be looking out for, or be wary of.

Thanks very much in advance!

Dove House Motors in Rushden, Northants come well recommended

Not sure how many 996's they have at moment but well worth giving them a call

Not quiet East Midlands but Shirley garage at Meridan is a good place to go with 996 to suit most pockets

When we bought ours (from Northway Porsche, Reading, so probably too far from you) we paid Peter Morgan for an independent inspection, money well spent. The report was very comprehensive and included pictures.

Our Carrera 3.2 was bought by 911 Virgin, but again, that is probably too far for you. We would definitely recommend them, Tom was great but unfortunately didn't have a 996 for us to buy at the time.

Thanks everybody for the pointers... I will certainly check them all out. Much as I'd prefer to find my perfect car 10 miles away, it's not lost on me that I may need to go a little further afield!

The first thing to do is like the car

WE travelled to the South of Birmingham for our 996 (FRom Shrewsbury)

But did about 1200 miles before we bought our first quattro.

The third one I bought fro Middlesborough about a 350 round trip

As you said you may have to see a number before the right one turns up.

WE had a member recently who spend three month finding the right car only to have it written of by the company he paid to collect it!!

Just keep looking and initially go on gut feelings

Don't listen too much to the horror stories posted about these cars

If you believe them then ALL 996 s need a new engine

I am not sure if you need an inspection.

The inspection my car had 24 months before I bought it gave some information but does the inspection guy REALLY know his 996s

Also watch the Porsche Centres they will all want to restore it to new condition and may not even have anyone who has worked on or had been trained that model

The guy in Meridan is good

Gut feeling is also good

Hi

Not sure what your budget is.

This is our cherished 996 4S that we put in for part ex last weekend, a much loved and pampered car. Can tell you anything you need to know about it.

Good luck with your search.
