I'm on my way to take a look at this car on friday http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/240584.htm and any advice would be much appreciated. It apparently has full service history and bodywork in excellent condition.Have spoken to people from the Porsche clubs at shows etc and apparently value for money 911's (I like this shape) the 3.0 is the way to go.Some advise to get the car checked independantly,is there somewhere in Nottingham to get this done?

Keewee

PS Plan to take it back to NZ with me in a couple if years to test it out on those South Island roads

Hi ,
I recommend you contact 911&Porsche World magazine , try 020 85666 400 or Email chp@chpltp.com.
The magazine did a fantastic buyers guide for the 911SC, it was a pull out A5 page size. Buy the back issue with the buyers guide and it will tell you all you need to know.
Good luck
John

Looks a nice fine example. Make sure you let the car fully warm up and then switch it for and try and start it bout ten mins after to amke sure no problems with hot starts. Also check if it has a pop off valve fitted inside the airbox. easy to look just two straps. If not and you buy i recommend fitting one, could save lots of money in the long run. One main area of rust to check is where the bumper support tubes fit inside the wheel arches you will be able to see these.

Hello Keewee,

I live in Nottingham and I drove- until thursday Sept 6th- a carrera 3.o as a daily driver. I use Zentrum
14 CONWAY ROAD
CARLTON
NG4 2PU
TEL: 0115 9613 911
FAX: 0115 9613 911

as my mechanics with the specialist work done by Mike Bainbridge up in Kendal, Cumbria. http://www.mbporsche-engineering.co.uk/?About

Mike and Martin from Zentrum can do a pre-purchase inspection for you. Before you wish to outlay the sum, happy for you to contact the vendor and look around the car for all the potential sour spots, its service history, its condition and report back to you?

BTW- in case that you are afraid I am going to buy it- that's not the case.

I presume you have already bought the "original 911" book by Peter Morgan?

Pm me if you would like to have a chat.

Best regards,

bert

Well worth getting checked by specialist. important for rust in kidney bowl area. Look inside door jamb down by where the footplate on sill is look for rust bubbles. Get hand inside wheelarch and feel between the door jam and inner wing, natural rust trap that needs costly surgery to recover. No other way than cutting into door jamb to replace. If you can get on to impactbumpers.com when back running lots of pictures of this area
Good luck find a good one and you will love it, sold mine after 9 years wish i could have kept it but got my dream 911 in Speedster so had to sell
Geoff

Thanks for all your advice.Unfortunately I didn't get to view the car before I went to NZ.Am back now but unfortunately it has been sold, not meant to be. Will have to keep my eyes open for another.

Hey are you called Keewee after the Mt Bike? Great bikes eh? I ahve a Cromolite.

Cheers

For the future, take the best advice here and that is to get a PPI until you know the marque better, even a tasty looking impact bumper car will have rust lurking somewhere unless it was completely restored the week before! [:(]
