A 'Looking to Buy' That'll Really Tax You...

Im looking to buy a set of 924 GTS inside door mouldings. I dontthink that Ive ever seen any for sale myself, although I have seen them on cars in the past. Can anyone point me in the right direction? GTS window sliders would excite me more than I can describe...

Have you tried Exeter OPC :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

I've never seen any for sale either, and until I saw your picture I didn't realise they were so particular to the GTS. The Clarks FAQ lists only 59 cars produced, so it's a very small pool from which to hope to find parts.

Sorry no idea, it looks like the handle is higher up, so would you have to mess about with the door mech? Also whats going on witth that window?

The only people I think that would have a lead on something like that would be on 924.org - have you tried over there?

The 924 Carrara GTS had fibreglass doors, but I believe that the inners were separate from the outers. Im not expecting to find original parts, but I had hoped possibly to find a firm who were still making replicas. Moving the latch pull wouldnt be too difficult Tom and the windows slide rather than dropping, for ease. Ive looked Ed, but it isnt their strongpoint...

The more common GTS interior comprised of black trimmed GRP race seats, thin carpet and a cut off centre console. This one is quite unusual. The 924 CGT had sports bolsters trimmed in black velour with a red pinstripe, which was also very smart. I havent seen another leather trimmed 937...

Hi Simon,
Did you ever get any leads on this?

My track 924S is going on a further diet, and the doors seem as good a place to start as any. The current genuine leather door cards could probably be replaced by something a tad lighter [:D], but options for a 924/pre-oval dash 944 seem few:
1) Deutsch9 have been promissing carbon door cards for a while, but from them, they'll cost more than the rest of the car
2) EMC's CF door cards are for later dash, Kevin was going to have a look if they have patterns for us poor relations.

Now a pattern/replica 924GTS door card would be rather neat...

Hello Sean. Not a sausage, but I dont suppose there was much chance realistically. What Ive done before is as follows: remove the door card, handle and bin; remove the speaker: remove the drop glass; remove the electric window regulator; remove the side impact bar if you have door bars. At this point the door will weigh chuff all. Then replace the drop glass acrylic/lexan (both FAR stronger and more shatter resistasnt than glass, but Perspex has a far greater resistance to marr). I usually pin them up in the slider but you can rivet catches and a handle to the top edge and allow them to drop a pre-determined distance (by chocking the guides) if you wish. If you dont want a door card then you can cut away all of the inner skin and mount the catch horizontally on the door bottom. If you do then you can either leave the inner as-is, or you can cut away all of the metal but leave two or three small supports for the small area on which the catch is mounted. I have used 1mm black HDPE sheet to replace the door card, cut to pattern and riveted in place: I did mess about with screws at first, but rivets are definitely the way to go. A lot of people leave the top bare, but it is unsightly, so Ive covered it using the top of an old door card. The tops are usually in excellent condition, even when the rest is ruined, so theyre easy to find. Cut the moulded tops off along the welt line: this is far easier said than done and you need to take a good deal of time and care to do it smartly (I finished the job using a very wide and very charp chisel). This is held in place using the existing screws and the locking button. This will look smart, weigh next to nothing and it should be safe. Ive hit the HDPE quite hard and it doesnt give, although you might want to substitute 1.5mm sheet if it concerns you.

Many thanks..I'll be driving on and around the EVO triangle in the car in Wales this weekend, but I guess I have found something to do for the weekend following [:D]. Thanks for the how-to!

Ive been meaning to make a couple of sets of polycarbonate windows, so let me know if youre interested. I can also put you onto a good supplier for the HDPE sheet too (itll cost about £5 for enough to do two doors ex-works).
