Having picked up a minor scrape on one of my rears wheels , which was annoying (just a bit![]), and having been told that colour matching may be a problem, I decided to change the colour of all four![] Always liked the gloss black wheels against the red so here they are - a nice job by SWWR in Exeter.

Apparently it does have a small wheel balance affect, not just cosmetic like the aligned crest.
Chris always puts a coloured mark where the wheels are fitted so that they always go back in the same orientation. I highly doubt other places are this meticulous to details. Part of what makes his services so great

It dies off in the winter........And on the subject of locking wheel nuts I was always told (and by Chris F himself) that on the wheels where the hole is in line with the valve (i.e Carrera Sport wheels etc) that the locking nut went in the hole closes to the valve - for balance purposes. How come it's shifted to the other side now?[] - One of the many reasons I don't do the polishers competitions...[]ORIGINAL: Oggy

Alan, your wheels look great, and personally I like the greenery on the drive. However some might dock you a couple of polisher-points for not getting your bolts painted black to match the wheels ;-)
Chris F told me about positioning your locking bolts opposite the valve as well (when I was in having damptronics fitted last year) and I've followed that advice while taking trouble to position my centre-caps so the Porsche crests are fashionably off-kilter and don't point anywhere in particular.
Call me a pedantic old git but in practice the position of the locking bolt relative to the tyre valve has no effect on wheel balancing, which is usually done off the car (so with no regard to the car's wheel fastenings), and which already compensates for the weight of the tyre valve.
Just to hammer the point home, a locking wheel bolt off a 997 weighs pretty much the same as the matching-length hex wheel bolt, but even a 10-gram difference between wheel bolts would only make a gram or two's worth of difference at the wheel rim, where the stick-on balance weights only come in 5-gram increments.
Knowing Chris I think it's just about being systematic: if you know where your locking nuts are, you can put your locking key on the locking bolt without a second glance, so can get your wheels off that little bit quicker...
... that and he's got a sense of humour

Thanks Tim but the only issue I have with painting the bolts is that the wheels come on and off quite frequently and the paint wouldn't stay on very long! However, even though losing polisher's points is not of any concern I have now felt obliged to move my locking bolts..........[] De-weeding the drive is another matter.......[&:][]
