A murder of Porsches in Lakes

Is that the correct collective noun for Porsche's? murder...gaggle...flock...i digress.

Anyway yes, why were there a gang(?) of about 50 minted old skool Porches driving through Ambleside and up The Struggle on saturday? There was a pocket(?) of them in Little Langdale so i imagine they came over Wrynose pass. At the head of the pack(?) there was a triplet of 914's including a totally gorgeous Guards Red one that i want sooo much to own, i was unsure whether to dip my head in shame for not washing mine before i set out or to hang my head out of the side window like a Border Collie.

This was closely followed by a string of air cooled 911's and what may have been a Speedster, it looked like a stretched Beetle. Going down into Ambleside all the old skool colours were there, Monaco Blue, brown, Gulf Livery, and what resembled VW Mars Red; and they all sounded as cool as they looked.

Has Anyone ever has a 914 cos i wanted that red one so badly? how would one compare to my 924s? Sorry admins for not posting this on the porsche spotting topic!

Good digression. [;)]

I suggest a Piech of Porsches......[8|]

Used to be a Ferry of Porsches but guess Piech would be keeping up with the times []

Mr Brightside,
Are you frae Cumbria ? saw an old 911 s at Bruton Park (Carlisle United) at 3 o clock Saturday finished in green wonder if the owner had been for a run out in the morning as it had a few travel stains ?

Hiya

That will have been part of a group from DDK doing the Coast to coast (C2C) tour running from St Bees on the East coast over to Robin Hood's Bay on the west coast. Did the red 914 you mention have flared arches as it's probably a well known 914/6 conversion that does quite a lot of historic type events. I have a 914 also but can't really comment on the handling compared to a 924 as I haven't got it on the road as yet but suffice to say it will be quite a bit different!

Regards

Nathan,
You have got your East and West mixed up St Bees is on the West coast about 10 miles away from me,what is DDK ?

Frenchy - you are right of course - it's been one hell of a day work wise today so my mind wasn't quite in gear when I wrote that! DDK as poprock has stated is an enthusiast club focussing mainly on the older models and if that's your bag then it's worth a look and they are a nice bunch. www.ddk-online.com

I didn't notice if it had flared arches or not unfortunately, do these cars have a 2.0l flat four aircooled lump?

They came in various VW flat four engine sizes over the years 1.7, 1.8 and 2.0 with both carbs and fuel injection but the 914/6 had a porsche 2.0 flat six the same as early 911's.
