What is the best underbody protection for a 964RS Lightweight ?

Are original drivers footwell mats and luggage area carpets still available ? RHD.

And which locking wheel nuts ?

(Trying to keep it as original as possible --- long term)

I believe the RHD UK cars had factory underseal as opposed to non LHD ROW.....southbound best bet for interior.....
AND WELCOME TO THE LEICHTBAU
The most fun and best Porsche 911 ever

I would also recommend Southbound for the mats and carpet. They source original material and have good patterns. I bought a complete carpet set from them and it is just like the original.

Southbound is a really good place to go for your carpet set. They have recently used my boot carpet as a template to produce replacements (they only previously had lhd boot carpets), so can now do the entire set.

When I purchased my car, UK rhd, I stripped the underside to clean prior to waxolying I found little, if any, underseal had been applied from new. You'll probably find the spot welds beginning to corrode, particularly in front of the rear wheels. A little bit of effort to clean up and stopped future rust is worthwhile. When I was looking for an RS, numerous were pretty rusty underneath, particularly the lhd cars (which might explain Mel's comment that rhds did get some form of protection, over and above that afforded to lhd cars, from new).

It would be interesting to hear about your new car, specification, colour etc and where you got it from.

Best of luck.

Well, it's a terrible colour.

Almost as bad as my Speed Yellow GT3, sorry !

So now you all know which car it is --- it may be the only Coral Red Metallic RHD 964RS within 8,000 miles of here !

All the numbers stack up, the mileage is I am sure correct, imported from HK at around 2000Km to a Jersey owner who had it main dealer servoced five times in 18,000Km.

Then looked after by Lancasetr Porsche in Cambridge since when the car has added 9,000 miles and three good services. MPH Speedo replaced by Lancaster and the original is with the car.

Radio and rear speakers fitted in Jersey --- door cards left untouched. Roll bar fitted in Cambridge, carpet rolled back and left to be reglued should the roll bar be removed. 993RS gearlever know to be replaced with original, RS carpet mats and front boot mat (lost ??) to be supplied.

The whole underside of the car is very clean with a very thin layer of black paint over much of it. The only ding is from a speed bump at the front dead centre which will need the be sealed. All the bodywork is original and there is a natural patina across the whole car which is au naturelle --- although the front bumper has been repainted.

A new clutch, main service with brake fluid replacement, what looks like the first refubishment of the original mag wheels, new MOT, new boot carpet (thankyou Andrew), set of pattern RS floor mats, and six months road tax in the price --- I think that Andrew at Gmund has done a fantastic job for me and I can't wait to pick up the car.

And it has a four new Pilot Sport Cup tyres.

If the car has been tracked, there are no underbody dings to prove it. All the undertrays are present and intact. Unless of course they were removed and only replaced for sale !!

So long as my filings don't fall out when I drive it, I'll be happy.

Seriously, I had a rally prepared Peugeot 205 (by Skip Brown) --- on which the adjustable shocks wound themselves up to the point where the sun visors vibrated down on a journey !

Thanks for all your help so far --- I have ploughed through this Forum over the months, and I look forward to meeting up as and when ...

P.S. Weather protection ? Waxoyl injection of the the cavities --- plus the underside --- with annual clean-off and inspection ?

Thank you for updating us.

Its an interesting car. I saw it at Oulton Park in the paddock at the RS day earlier this year and at a track day at Donnington last year.

I guess it depends what your plans are for the car, but I really can see no detriment to having the car waxoyled. If you do, it will no longer be absolutely original but as a result it's likely to last a lot longer, particularly if you do the same on a repeated basis.

Enjoy the car, I believe its runs a standard suspension set up so you shouldn't worry about the ride being harsh, its no different to a lot of modern hot hatches.

Best regards.

Well, the engine's out for the new clutch and the car is up on the ramp, and it's naked.

There's a small amount of damage to the front floorpan in the boot area --- obviously speed bump orientated.

A tiny bit of corrosion on the skirt stays in front of the rear wheels -- no big deal.

But otherwise it is fantastic. No corrosion around the spot welds, absolutely clean galavised steel with the mist of tan sealer, and absolutely clean up into the shock absorber turrets.

So, I'm not going to give it any underbody treatment.

I'll clean-off and wax spray any visible corrosion, pay serious attention to the boot undertray, and try to avoid salt.

So far, so good.
