A quick 'Hi' to the 968 community

Hi all,

Just a quick note which I imagine you have all heard many times before.

After a series of 911's (996 C4 - fast, comfy, not very exciting and under steered horribly, 993 Carrera S - best car I have ever owned, driven, or even seen, 987 Boxster Tip - every day car and good at everything, 3.2 Carrera Sport - lovely car but showing it's age now) I have just picked up a 968 CS.

Would I swap it back for my prestine concourse winning 993 Carrera S - yes. Would I swap it for anything else - NO. The car is truly outstanding and if a Porsche snob like me (it has to be 6 cylinders, air cooled and at the back) can be totally converted then anyone can. I should say previously a Porsche snob like me.

Yes I know you've heard it all before but I'm enjoying typing this so stay with me - handles like it's on rails, sounds fantastic (sports exhaust helps but the lack of sound deadening heightens the experience), stops very well (Big reds), close ratio gearbox (compared to a 911) suits it perfectly. Makes you feel like a great driver everytime you go out - a drive is really an experience. In fact, it gives me the same buzz as my 993 used to (although that was ballistically fast and which gear your were in made little difference). The 993 was worth 3 times the CS and the smiles per mile are nearly identical - bargain of the century I reckon.

And finally, a little vain I know but I have owned the car for 6 days and driven it on 4 of those days. I have now had 4 seperate people approach me in the car park or petrol station to tell me they think my car is beautiful - ask me what it is (though some knew) and tell me how lucky I am. I owned the 3.2 Carrera for 2 years, a nearly pristine car in Guards Red with the beautiful Fuchs alloys and tea tray rear spoiler and never once did anyone say anything to me. I've had 4 remarks in 4 days in the 968 - amazing. And the 911 was worth 25% more.

Enough eulagising. Great car. See you at an event soon.

Welcome to the 968 world Lee - but please now change your avatar! You should also register on porsche968uk.co.uk - much more 968 activity on there compared to PCGB. The 944 brigade on here are quite chatty, and some of their stuff (particularly S2 and turbo) is useful to us "S3" owners.

If you're close enough, will you be at Silverstone 22nd May for the club middle years cars event? At the moment it's possible I will have the only 968 there - my Guards Red tip coupe, which is for sale as I collect my cab on Sunday. Was thinking of bringing both, but it's a 3 hour drive each way, herself would not be happy driving that far alone, let alone the petrol cost! Details of the event in May PP page 9, you have to be quick as the ticket line closes today or tomorrow.

Avatar changed within 2 minutes of my last post!

Won't be able to make Silverstone I'm afraid - a long way for me and a preplanned weekend anyway.

Good luck in selling the tip and I hope the cab proves just as good.

After two years in mine it's still got that 'sense of occasion' every time I drive it, it's my daily too [:)]

Revel in it and enjoy! [:D]

Had mine for almost a year now, what a fantastic car - lots of people seem to turn and stare! Went on an Aston Martin Experience at Silverstone a few weeks ago and one bloke said ".....what a pretty car".

Still does it for me, now in sixth year of ownership and still the daily driver!

Bought the 968 coupe to be our main car, but slipped into using "her" shopping trolley - did not want to despoil our 968! Now in 13th year of ownership - and had a 944S and 944 lux before that!

The coupe is a fabulous car - really comfortable (once we get our creaking old bones through the door!) and fun to drive - whether in potter or blast mode! Practical - we've done numerous Tesco runs in her - and not expensive to won either. We had a Rover 820 turbo vitesse that cost more to insure and service! We're finding the cab different - will be a real blast on a hot day with the roof down, but not as good as the coupe with the roof up. Previous owner had the tyres at 39psi all round, which may explain some or all of the scuttle shake on B roads! I've dropped them to 32psi (which is where, from experience, I run the coupe) but have not yet driven her (too busy cleaning and detailing!).
