A rattling dash question

Hi all, hope you’re all well
I have an intermittent rattling on the dash of my ‘16 981. The good news is I’ve identified it; it’s on the left, where the leading edge meets the windscreen. If I press down on this for 30 seconds, it stops for a few hours. I wondered if maintaining this pressure while applying heat from a hairdryer might do the trick permanently - alternatively, I wonder if anyone can tell me what lies beneath this edge? If it’s a small gap, I thought perhaps cramming some foam down there might work.
Cheers
Damian

I seem to have answered my own question, and in doing so, realised how boneheaded was my original idea of using a hairdryer when the car has its own system of delivering a stream of hot air to that exact location...

Anyway, I jammed a wedge of pencil eraser into the gap, turned the demister on high for 10 minutes and then chilled the hopefully reformed plastic with the aircon. It seems to have worked.

The end.

Well done, I love a happy ending - especially where rattles are involved.

Sometimes the solution is simpler than it might seem [:)]

I sometimes think I am simpler than I would like to believe... 😁

Thanks for the kind comment. Dash rattles and creaks drive me crazy... with this one, I’d spend all my time in the car just waiting for it to start and yet really hoping it would not..!

This is a Porsche forum. Could you please be specific about the size and shape of the eraser, measurements for the precise location and, finally, the volume you previously had to set the audio to in order to overcome the rattle. (Decibel counts would be helpful)

Another one to tuck away in the list of tips. Thanks.

Hi Damian,

I have exactly the same issue with my 2015 Cayman - it's been driving me absolutely crazy!

I just wondered whether your solution is still working for you, before I start examining my pencil eraser collection for a likely candidate?! Also, if you could please clarify whether you wedged the eraser between the trim and the bottom of the windscreen, that would be great.

Many thanks

Matt
