21cm spacer with 9j rear and 255/17 Toyo R888 --- is this a step too far ?

Paul manages 16 or 18mm with an 8j rear and 255/17 R88 .....

... I have now removed the spacer ...[;)]

Thanks Paul --- I incorrectly thought your alloys were 8J.

I know that 16mm do work with this wheel and SO2's ... so they should also work with the Toyo's which are a little more square ..

Chris,

the Cup car has 21 mm spacers and 9,5 rear and that is as far as you can go reasonably..... but offset is 68 mm! I think the 9" RS rim has only 55mm offset, so get your calculator. I think, it´s indeed a step to far by a few millimeters.

mm is a measurement we use on the continent! For you it´s probably about 1/16th inch, 3 shillings and 1/2 an ounce to wide... or a half pint? Let me have a few pints and I´ll tell you...or not, having then lost the ability to speak.[:D]

All the best,

Hacki

21mm is indeed possible on std wheels (Adrian Palmer ran like this I'm sure, details in the book!) but it is close, don't know what the rolling dia. of the R888 is. Only thing to do is try it - I do know it doesn't work with MM wheels but those are 4& offset.

i've got 18's on my 9's chris...not sure I'd go any further!

That sounds like the limit to me, too. And no two shells are the same, so it might just work on one car, but it doesn´t on the other. Quality limits are from 1992.

Can't remember for sure but i thought mine had 21mm on the rear. One thing to watch out for is the length of the wheel studs when going out that far. You might find you have issues when swapping wheel sizes around if you have spare sets !

I'd be happy to stick at 16mm spacers, no point in scuffing the arch, or worse !

Which means that I'm looking for a pair ...

Lawrence, thanks for the heads up on the wheel studs ...

Just double checked. My spacers are 23mm (not 21mm as stated in previous post) with standard 9" mag wheels. No rubbing problems.

looks like you should put more rear camber,i had 21mm with just over 2 degrees camber was fine

are rs rear archs rolled from factory? i thought mine were just done due to having 18s fitted at some stage

I'm already running -2.25 degrees.

The Toyo R888's are very square shouldered.

I believe all RS arches are rolled.

Many thanks !

If you look at the tyre width at the point adjacent to the narrow black trim line, it's wider on the Toyo than on the road tyre.

And at the top, it also looks to fill the arch a little less ....
