A tech question from a Newbie

Hi all.
I'm new to the club and not quite a Boxster owner - yet. I am looking however and would appreciate a comment or two on the following technical enquiry.
I am aware that there is a tendency for Boxster's of no particular age or mileage to develop an oil leak at the interface between gearbox and engine "" the infamous RMS problem. Hopefully, I understand the matter in sufficient detail to be able to spot the problem if present on a prospective purchase.

What seems to be less widely discussed is the matter of loose cylinder liners. Is this a widespread problem? I've not read too much on the matter and to be honest it had slipped from my mind. Until, on taking my first look through Porsche Post, I notice an advert for a company specialising in rectifying the problem.

My questions are, how widespread is the problem? Is it mileage related? Most importantly, are there any symptoms of the problem that I should be aware of when viewing cars?

This happened to a batch of 2.5 cars, if memory serves me well, produced in 1998. There are no pre-symptoms only a requirement for new underpants and large hole in the wallet.

Autofarm offer a fix and as it states on their website only a small number of cars were affected.

also accessories from the Nicky Clarke range are very popular I hear ! [:D]

Thats good news then. I'm looking for a 3-4 year old 3.2 engined car. Good to know that theres one less thing to mindful of! [;)]
