Drove this today, though not in the Porsche. What a road!!! Great tarmac, lovely, open and well sighted bends, fantastic views! 50mph speed cameras but as far as I could see they were not of the average speed variety?

Thats the Cat and Fiddle isn't it? Yeah its a nice road, I usually end up stuck behind some 40mpher through the nice twisty bits though. Last time I went up there a few months ago I picked up a puncture in Macclesfield somewhere, got VERY crossed up going round a down hill right hander. At the time I put it down to ice or something, when I came back out of the Cat and Fiddle pub the N/S rear was sat on its rim [] To add insult to injury I'd taken the pump out of the car 2 days previous and forgot to put it back in. Then it went foggy and started snowing heavily so I got nice and wet while I took the wheel off... Quick call to the RAC and they were there in 20 minutes and I was off 15 minutes after that on my space saver - as far as I'm concerned utterly brilliant!
Good came out of it though, it meant I got Toyo Proxes all round a few days later - which grip like a scared cat to a wool jumper [:D]

I remember reading somewhere, Pistonheads I think that there is talk of putting Average Speed Cameras up there...

Yes its a great road, or was when I lived up there and there were no speed cameras ! There are many great roads up round the High Peaks in particular and I did toy a few years ago about trying to organise a driving weekend round the Peaks - who knows maybe one day !

Spent last weekend in the Peaks and the Matlock - Bakewell Road and beyond is a drivers dream.

Loads of power rangers on their crotch rockets and all carefully following each other at 50mph as the road is simply one long speed limit with even police helicopters cruising above so they dont kill themselves.

It must have been brilliant in the good old days [&:]

All the roads around Derbyshire / Peak District are officially rubbish - I wouldn't bother coming over here to try them out [;)]

TBH there's plenty of good roads all over the North, particularly where there are a few hills.
