Hi there,
I am from the UK and I've seen a 928 that really interests me. Does anyone in the UK (or elsewhere) know of a 928 S2, 86.5 manual, that was registered as A9 YEM? (Iris blue with blue leather/pinstripe interior.) I've also asked in the PCGB 928 forum.
This car was owned by someone called Mr. Andrew Yem, who was a PCGB member as far as I am aware? It is now registered as D502 YNO. Mr. Yem had the car for seven years. It is now for sale at a car dealer, who sells used Porsche, Mercedes, Audi etc. By no means a well known Porsche dealer.
I have been to see the car in person with a view to buying it and wanted to find out if anyone knows the car and if it is a good car to buy?
There are a few issues that I've identified but they don't seem to be too severe:
Vibration through car from engine through entire rev range, feels a bit like a rough idle but the MOT emissions all check out. Speaking to specialists, it seems that this could be engine mounts - if so need to choose solid or hydraulic. I've read all the arguments for and against!
Front drivers side wing loose at bottom, behind front wheel.
Boot releases not working.
Head lamp height adjustment not working.
Last serviced in September 2006 at 67k miles and now at 73k miles - should I worry about this? A service here will cost £325 with a 928 specialist. I called the 928 specialist who did the last three services, including the one in 2006 and he says it's a good car. He has seen it since 2006 for minor maintainance.
It has had a cambelt/radiator/water pump and clutch in the last 20k with receipts for the work and a service book full of Porsche OPC or specialist stamps. The air con works properly at all temperature settings.
There is a coating of gunky oil on a small shelf at the very bottom of the engine, at the front, just above the sump, below the timing belt.
The dealer wants £6000 for it - is this a good price or over priced for what it is?
Should I get the car inspected? By a generalist or by a 928 specialist?
Thanks in advance.
Sam
