About to buy a 3.2 Carrera Targa

Hi,

I am about to buy a 1988 3.2 Carerra. Can anyone suggest the best people to get it inspected? As well as the major mechanicals I am particularly interested in making sure there is accident damage and concealed rust. Autofarm suggested AFN Guildford to me but they seem to be majoring on mechanicals rather than body.

It has 118k miles, FPSH, is black with black leather and is very very clean. Does £12k sound about right?

Thanks,
Marcus

If you are in the Autofarm area then JZ Machtech are close-ish. Number is 07000 100 911 and you should ask for Jonas. They are good guys and very thorough. One of the best independent Porsche shops around. They are at Kings Langley and have a website you can check out.

I have no connection with JZM.

Thanks Richard. The car is in Bromley, south London so somewere down south would b better.

Graham, thanks.

I see you have a targa. In speaking to so called specialists they are very scathing about targa' s. One in particular stated that they can be hard to sell on if they have high miles (like the one I am buying!).

Any views on this?

Marcus (currently experiencing pre-purchase nerves!)

I got the Targa because it`s the best of both worlds ,roof on or off but I had to wait about a year looking at a lot of cars before I fell in love with this one in the sun light.

The one you are looking at sounds a bit cheap but don`t let the mileage put you off if you look on the 3.2 forum you will find one of the cars on there is still going strong with over 250,000 miles

Make sure you get it checked out before you part with any money, There are some doggy cars out there

Graham, thanks. I agree on the both wordls thing, however I was a bit disappointed how much wind noise there is about 80/85.

I have arranged for CCI to take a look, who were recomended by the club secretary. This guy looks at about 20 porsche' s a month apparently and seems to like detail. Which is good.

Glad to hear that it sounds cheap, I thought so too. The guy started out asking 13k but wll take 12. Only downside I can see so far is that it needs a service. Fingers crossed for the inspection.

Marcus I don`t get a lot of wind noise from the one I have even at 1** mph but a lot of them are noisy it may only need the side seals adjusting or renewing.

Hope every thing is OK for you and you can join the 3.2 register and I my see you at Eynsham Hall if you go
