My uncle's giving up driving, and is giving me his 1973 911E targa 2.4. I just wonder how many of these beauties were built in RHD?

If anyone could tell me, i'd be oh-so-grateful - it's such a perfect car, and he's kept it near-perfect, down to the original owner's manual.

Thanks guys - looking to hear for some feedback - ANY feedback, really!

Exact numbers are hard to come by, maybe 20 - 40 in 1973, the first year that the RHD Targa was built, but be assured there are very few left now! I have one awaiting restoration. Yours sound rather better than mine, how about some pics?

Hi if you let us have the Vin no we can proberly tell you more it will start 911331 with four more numbers the E eng no should start 623 Regards Berny.

hey nick and berny,
thanks for the tip - i'll go check my VIN number tonight.
here's a pic of a couple of my babies
one's the Targa - the other's a 993 C2 in manual, both are completely stock.

Don't ever recall seeing that colour on an early car . . . . looks great.

Good to know your already a Porsche owner.

Phil

I've always preferred Porsches to other supercars - thanks to my little "brotherhood", we're lucky enough to have a 996 TurboS cab in our stables. I also test-drive new cars for the local press, so I'll be picking up the 997 Turbo for a spin next week. Another mate of mine has also brought the ex-Nick Faldo 964TurboS to town.

But the "E" is still my favourite - BY FAR.

nope not in the office - i'll try take some of the car this weekend - and get the chassis no.

What a stunning combination of cars and incidentally EXACTLY my two favourite colours.

There is quite some expertise within the Porsche club already, but have you tipped your toe into what is happening at the Dark Side[;)]? www.ddk-online.com

Somehow it seems crowded with old porschista's.

How is the condition of the car? Engine, corrosion etc?

Best regards,

Bert

welcome. i too am not a huge fan of the Targa. but have to say yours does look good.
sounds like you get to drive quite a few new porschesi find it interesting that you actually own (seem to prefer) the older ones.
was wondering why?

for me the new ones just have too many gadgets and warning thingys beeping at me. but the main reason i no longer buy new is the dealers i always come away feeling i've been done.

Targers are greet in the summer with the top off you can enjoy the sunshine but can still drive in the rain with the windows up and not get wet if you keep on the move. enjoy the drive, I may go out this afternoon when the football is on the roads should be empty! Berny.

Yes, Bernard, but unfortunately the cameras don't watch football and the lone Porschista is an easy target.

as for driving porsches - yes i do get the chance to try a LOT out - this weekend i should be taking a 356B cabrio S with a Super 90 engine down to the local Ferrari workshop. Unless it rains.[FONT=verdana, geneva"]

Its possible that Porsche Cars will give you this information if you request a Certificate of Originality. My own 73E Targa is number 729

You lucky sod. For some reason the "E" targa in RHD/yellow is my dream early 911. More affordable than the "S" but still quick enough. They're a bit like rockinghorse poo though, somewhat thin on the ground.

I used to own an early 2.7 targa, and I've always regretted selling it. I thought the 2.2 or 2.4 E would be similar to drive, but with the addition of lovely '60s styling.

wow. not sure i'd like to respray my car YELLOW...

hopefully in the next week or so i'll have some super exciting pics for you guys, with a couple of 911s 34 years apart
