ABS / 4WD control unit problems

Hi,

I have to replace the ABS / 4WD controller on my Carrera4 and have been quoted over £2000 for a replacement from a porsche specialist.
I was wondering if anyone knows where I would be able to get hold of a 2nd hand one or a reconditioned one.

Or if the unit can be reconditioned anywhere??

Any help with this would be fantastic.

Cheers
James

James,

I'm sure it's possible to get one from one of the more usual Porsche breakers (PorschApart etc) but given that the ABS/PDAS controller is normally very reliable I'm wondering if that really is the problem. Have you posted the symptoms etc??

Regards

Dave

Interestingly my specialist told me recently that he is seeing these fail more often as the cars are getting older. When I was looking to buy a 964 he advised me to make sure it was working on any car I looked at as they are blooming expensive (about a grand for a C2).

There is a company called bba reman in Kent, not bba reman in usa.

They remanufacture these - approx £600. I would get an independent to be part of thsi so they can test before install.

The bosch original are about 1/2 the porsche price.

so for a C4:

porsche - £2.2k
bosch - £1.2k
remanufactured - £0,5k
second-hand - up to £0.5k

C2 less then these.

I would swap the abs ecu with another to make sure it is this.

Hi,

Thanks for all your replies.
BBA reman in kent are very helpful and are going to check out the unit for me and test it/recondition it.

I have already had the unit checked to make sure this was the problem, and the the guy at the garage backed up what Alexander says, that more of them are failing due to age.

Thanks again.
James
