Hi,

2000 C4. Driving today, and when I accelerated hard in 3rd gear the ABS and PSM amber lights came on and remained on. After switching ignition on and off they have cleared? Any ideas why and where to look first.

I have not done a fault code scan yet as I do not have the equipment required.

Thanks

To answer my own question; from some more searching it looks like it could be the MAF on the way out.

Can anyone clarify before I go and purchase one.

Thanks

As you say, most likely the MAF if it happened under hard acceleration. Any idea how many miles it has done on the MAF? If it is 50,000+ then it's probably living on borrowed time anyway.

Richard,

There is no record of a MAF change in the extensive history I have> Car has 99000 miles so I guess its time.

Where is the cheapest place to buy?I can not find on eurocarparts. Is £250 about right?

Thanks

For a 2000 C4 you need Porsche part number 996.606.124.00 and they are a whopping £435.89 inc VAT from an OPC. Here are the equivalent Bosch part numbers for the 3 MAF types used on the 996, which you will find cheaper at ECP or another Bosch distributor. Try Lloyd Deakin at http://www.fpuk.co.uk as he is about the cheapest I have found. (LloydSix on 911UK).

Porsche Number - Bosch Number

996.606.123.00 - 0280 217 007
996.606.124.00 - 0280 218 009
986.606.125.01 - 0280 218 055

Edit: Just found this, which might be useful as a comparison http://www.airflowmeters.co.uk/SearchAdvanced.aspx?PerformSearch=manufacturercode&SearchValue=0280%20218%20009 Best to check it is an original Bosch part though.

Edit 2: I just dug up a quote that Lloyd gave me last September:
0280 218 009 - £155.00 INC VAT & UK Postage.
It was some while ago, so don't know if it still applies.

Jetbox,

Did you check your brake lights. Same happened to mine and diagnostics discovered brake pedal switch problem. Cheap and easy fix and all well now.
Initially thought MAF or brake sensors so relieved when was not.

Brake switch problem same on my C4S too, n/s/f light was coming on while braking then ABS and PSM failure resolved by changing brake switch under warranty.

Could be the brake light switch, or even an ABS sensor, but because it happens on hard acceleration I think it is most likely the MAF. Especially since it has done 99,000 miles. Even if it isn't the MAF at this time, I think it would still be a wise preventative measure to change it now.

thanks for all the suggestions. Checked the brake lights and all appears well.

I'll treat the old girl to a new MAF and see what happens
