ABS brakes

I'm having a problem with the ABS warning light coming on. I've read the other threads on here about similar problems, however mine flickers on and off. Sometimes staying on for quite a while, other times staying off for quite a while and other times flickering on and off. I would assume (hope?) it's only an electrical connection (the car has been more or less unused for the last three months). I've checked the push-fit connectors at each brake caliper and they are all OK. I haven't tested each sensor yet, but from what I've read they either wor or they don't, and as my warning lights flickering I wouldn't think it was them.

Any ideas on where to start and what to look for? I suppose I will have to work my way throught the wiring and check for dodgy connections but thought I would start here in case anyone has had the same problem and rectified it.

I've never noticed the pump, but then I've never noticed it on my other car either! I'll have a listen when I next go out in it.

The reason I asked by the way is my light flickered but this was a red herring (faulty light). I actually have a faulty sensor, i think.

The light doesn't come on when it's working - it's not like a traction control light it's merely to highlight a fault in the system. Sound like a dodgy connection or dirty sensor to me.

It's all sorted!

Having checked all the connections to the wheel sensors, and an MoT looming, I took it to the local Bosch Specialist. The ABS system tested OK when the light was off, but didn't work when the light was on. After two days of checking and testing the fault was discovered in the power supply line to the ECU. Water ingress had caused damage to a connector and was causing a fluctuation in the current to the ECU - low current and the ECU reported a fault, normal current and the ECU was happy.

Now to re-book the MoT.
