came on yesterday for around 10 seconds with alarm sound just as i started car

never happened before, any reason for this? have had brake fluid one do it before but never abs,it is working maybe too sensitive for my liking

Don´t worry. After starting the car, voltage (weak battery?) may have been a little low, then ABS alarm is the first thing to come. After a few seconds wirh running engine (and alternator) everything is fine. So you can relax[;)].

Is this the same issue as with the C4 - waiting for the hydraulic pump to get up to pressure?? Excessive time to get up to pressure might indicate a need for a primary hydraulic bleed.

Wot they say.......

NB Both my Shogun and Mrs Melv's SLK fail the ABS when battery power below 10v.........

spot on guys, yea the battery was under pressure to start...would say it was under 10v,and as you say once engine got some revs all fine...cheers

I also have had this --- though last time it was my ABS pump packing up !

My 964 battery lasts really well (though it's on charge at the moment) --- but my 993 is hopeless. Immobiliser, alarm, tracker, the alarm fires itself it the car isn't driven for 7 days, and the battery was new last year ....

Strange, Chris, my 993 lasts for weeks without being driven.... After a year it can´t be the battery, so I´d check what´s wrong.

i find battery needs a overnight charge once a year...quite surprised how long this battery is lasting..maybe its near its end

Hi Phil and Chris , re battery charging , I use one of those modern electronic controlled battery 'conditioners'. It pulses the battery through a gentle charge ( 500ma ) and discharge cycle with enough energy input to counter the drain from alarm system , clock etc . First had to use it on a 996 daily driver (1999-2006) after found myself replacing battery every 2 years .
So when I got into occasional use 964RS with mandatory after market alarm system for insurancepurposes it really was a benefit . Mine is mains driven but think you can get sun-powered ones too....[:D] [:D] - latter are not much use oop north

There's something draining the battery but I'd assumed it was all the alarm stuff .... maybe I need to have it checked. Tnx Hacki [;)]
