ABS Problems

Hi All Experts

Took my 964 for 6k service today and new front brakes. On collection was advised that the ABS was not working on the test drive. My problem is that there is no fault light showing in the speedo and it is not showing as a fault with the hammer, so can't tell the probem.

When you remove and re-insert the silver relay from the top fuse box area, (the one nearest the window), there should be a clicking sound from the relays by the ABS controls (the ones on the passenger side at the front), WHAT I NEED TO KNOW IS, if you do this on yours, do both relays click OR just the one on the left?

Need to get this sorted rapid, as don't like the car without ABS!

Cheers All,
Trevor

I too had no warning light but very intermittent ABS. Fixed mine by removing the wheel sensors, cleaning them up, vacuuming the recess in the wheel hub and putting them back in. This is a very common problem and easy to fix yourself. The hardest job is freeing the allen bolts which will have been on there since the car was built.

Thanks for the reply. Thought all the 964 owners had gone to sleep!

Car has been back to the garage today and they could not find the fault, so I will try this next.

They tried removing the sensor, and still no fault light, but have not tried removing all of them and cleaning them.
Fault on digital meter is 111 or 1111 which suggests too much or too little power (electric) but meters show 13v and correct Amps, so no help. Also took off fuse board, but no help.

Glad to hear it is not the ABS Pump, cos they are bloody expensive, (quoted £1,800).

Cheers, Trevor
