ABS sensor testing ?

Is there a way to test ABS sensors easily on the car or is it a job for a specialist with diagnostic equipment?

Resistance of all 4 sensors should be similar. If the wheel is spun A multimeter on ohms will flicker (and may register an AC voltage), a scope should show a square wave. Worth checking the continuity of the cables though, sensors are pretty reliable and the cables will be old brittle and constantly flexed at certain points. The sensors also can get pretty dirty with rust and scale sticking to them.

When I had issues with mine it was the cable to the back of the sensor that was shorting. Despite being covered in years of crud that came off easily with a brush, the sensors themselves were fine. After giving up trying to diagnose it myself it was the guys at Promax that found the faulty wire pretty quickly and cheaply [:)]

As Tony said mate they are only magnetic pick up sensors. I think Clark's has a small guide for testing them also.
