Acceptable tyre wear

I wondered if any other owners have experienced quite severe wear on the inner tread of their tyres. I do appreciate that our cars have negative camber but I have noticed recently that the wear is excessive ie. Across the rear (19' wheels) it is almost bald in the inside and 4mm on the outside. Is this normal or do I need my car set up? I would really appreciate your views.

Not sure if you have 986 or 987 Boxster. My 986 used to wear fronts bald on inside when about 4mm on outside, even when geometry perfect. This was typical for model, but rears wore pretty evenly. 987 Cayman wears fronts and rears evenly, but not sure if this is also typical of 987 Boxster. Someone else will no doubt comment.

Hi Brian thanks for the quick response - my car is 2005 987. I've had two 986's and didn't have anything like this but the wheels were only 18's. I wondered if having the bigger wheels affected this or it was simply the geometry.

I am surprised at your rear wear, although on the fronts it is quite normal to have some feathering on the edges due to the camber settings.

I would certainly get the car checked (post tyre change)

I don't think that's normal at all. When was the geometry last set up on your car? Not the wheel balancing - the geometry? And who did it for you?

I'd agree with others here, you need a full alignment and set up of the suspension, not so concerned about changing tyres first as the equipment should align to the rims.

Folks sorry about the delayed reply but I decided to get an opinion on the geometry as some of you have already suggested. Thank you for your advice and suggestions.
