Access to engine?

I have some recollection of reading a comment - I think from Mark - that it is a 2 minute job to access the engine on the Boxster. For no particular reason, other than curiosity, I'd like to! So could someone please explain the route.
Thanks.

roof needs opening about 6 so clamshell is up, then go to rear of hood and look in the opening and you will see a weather cover in the opening unclip this from the back on either side and you will also see a small ball joint connected to a wire unclip this too and lift the back of the roof forward( if plastic screen don't forget to fold screen) and just on the underside of the n/s roof is an elasticated cord with a hoop on the end , this hooks over the nearside corner of the roof to keep back part forward..

now the black clips you can see (4 in total) lift and twist 90 degree and the carpet comes up. if you have bose don't forget to unplug unit..

then you will come across either a black cover(986) os silver cover (987) this has 5 fixings on it.. 986 are just twist locks 987's are t30 screwed down.. undo these and lift it off and bob's ya uncle job done..

(For 986 owners) Only the 987 has the cord - the 986 locks in to place - unless it has the glass window - that is - in which case the glass stops it folding far enough - you might want to make a cord to try and hold the roof in place - or use "help" [;)])

986 with glass windows have them tooooooooooooooooooooooooooo unless it's not original equipment

only 986 with plastic windows don't have them as it stays in place by itself...

Of course you are right - being a plastic man myself - but recently fitted with glass [;)], I'd forgotten the Facelift 986 had glass too!

Many thanks to you both - I'll give that a go - once it's stopped raining!
Cheers,
Phil.

p.s. I thought I'd clean the inside of the rear(glass) window the other day - it seems impossible with the wind deflector in place even with the roof in various part open positions - is there some trick to it or does the wind deflector have to come off?? If so how easy is that??

The wind deflector has to come out.

With the roof open it's easier...
There are a couple of latches on the back of the windstop - take a look before you start.

Then on one side, apply a slight downward pressure with one hand to the one side, whilst pushing the latch behind the windstop gently towards the centre of the car just a few mm (no more than about 1/8th inch for those used to imperial measurements). Then whilst keeping the downward pressure, and holding the latch open slide that side of the windstop towards the rear of the car. It will unhook from the fixing on the rollbar and then you can just repeat with the other side and remove it "" the other side will be much easier.

Whilst you have the windstop removed take a look at the latches. If you look through the windstop at the latches, and move them over as if you were unlatching them you will see a small red dot on the back of the latch. This is important when you reinstall the windstop.

Please note the latches are fragile, if you can see all of the red dot through the windstop then you have moved it far enough over to be able to remove and install.

To replace the windstop just reverse the above. Start by inserting the windstop from the rear. Locate the centre against the stop at the bottom of the roll-over bar, and then put the windstop up against the rear of the rollbar. Push down and slide in one side, then the other. The latches will sort themselves out this time. After you have replaced the windstop look through it at the latch area. If you can see the red dots then the latches are not located properly, and the windstop will rattle, or could even fall out. You can also ensure the windstop is located correctly by shaking the top of each side "" if fitted correctly it will not come loose.
