Accessing Becker Mexico CD Stereo Serial Number

Hi,
I recently procurred my 911 993 from Hendon Way Motors and when I took delivery of the car the stereo was in 'Security Mode' awaiting a code folowing a change of battery. Hendon are not willing to help me and I have no 'keys' to remove the unit from the car. I guess I need the serial number to try to get the security code for the unit and I guess I will need to remove the unit to access the serial number? If this is the case, does anyone have any ideas how I could remove the unit without the removal 'keys' and without damaging the unit please?

Thanks.

My experience has been that if you drive into a high end car audio place, they are very willing to help you out (guess they expect you to pass on the message of good will - which I would if a place in Glasgow was useful to you!).

Thanks for your help guys. I have ordered some keys from eBay and I shall try the net for resources. I have noticed that some forums can provide the unlock codes for free!

Try this (at bottom of page): http://mike.focke.googlepages.com/radiocodes
It's for the CR21/22 etc. series but there will be another key combo for the Mexico if it isn't the same: a dealer isn't going to rip the unit out to get the serial number. In fact I think the CDR22 is a rebadged Mexico isn't it?

Thanks guys, your help is very much appreciated. What a great forum this is! Hopefully I can return the favour in the future.

As I'm sure you are aware, the Becker code is printed on a credit card sized card, its not unknown for this to be amongst the cars documents or hidden in the back of the document holder somwhere. Might be worth a check just to be on the safe side.

Good luck

I've got a Becker decoder. I just need the last 4 digits of the serial number. Drop them on an email and I'll give it a try for you. On some models you can access the serial number by pressing a combination of buttons, but I don't know what they are for the Mexico.

On later models (CDR210 etc): Hold down the TP button for at least 10 seconds after you turn the radio on. "Becker 1" will be displayed. Rotate the right knob (slowly) and it will display the Becker model number. Then rotate it again and the serial number should be displayed on the radio.

If you have a TP button on the Mexico, it might be worth a try.

Hi JB,
Yes, I have checked the document holder many times, just in case! Alas no sign of it. To be honest, knowing Hendon Way Motors as I now do, it does not surprise me that they would leave the stereo in security mode and let me sort it out having paid near 38K for it! At least the reason it was in security mode was because they changed the battery for me (one of the few items they did sort for me) as the previous one was shot (albeit for a non-porsche model). When I asked them for the security code they stated that I should be okay to get it myself. I said that I felt that they should provide this for me as a car should not be provided with a non working stereo, especially as it was okay before. They said, "you have to start putting your hand in your pocket some time with these cars!". I stated so what about the ÂŁ38K I spent buying it and the 2K bill I am about to receive for getting the car into A1 condition? The reply was that it was over ten years old! Mmmmm! Sorry, rant over!

Hi Richard,
thank you very much for your kind offer. I am awaiting delivery of the 'keys' to remove the stereo and if the code is not on the back of the unit (apparently sometimes it is!), I shall drop the last four digits of the serial number onto this thread (or should I PM them to you?).

I have read that on some units you can see the code in the way you suggest, and my unit does indeed have a 'TP' button, however I would think it very unlikely that it would display the code via button presses whilst actually in the state of 'awaiting security code'? Surely this would be a rather big loop hole in the security of the unit? Is it worth a try?

Thanks again though Richard, your help is much appreciated.

It won't display the code - but it might display the serial number, without having to remove the radio.....

PM or email me - just in case I forget to check back here.

No probs, will do. Thanks Richard.

Rich, try what Richard and I have suggested, it'll take you two minutes. If it works you'll save yourself a lot of aggravation and possibly skinned knuckles getting the unit out of the car (ask me how I know).
The TP process works; I have used it several times. The only thing you get is the serial number; until the advent of the junk decoders you would have had to go to Becker or Porsche to get the code from this, so no security breach.

Hi Richard.
Well I have just checked the button press etc sequence you posted and blow me down it worked! I have sent the last four digits of the serial number by PM.

This really will be cool if you can get a valid code for me. Please PM or email it rather than posting it please.

Richard kindly supplied me an unlock code for my unit and it worked first time. Thank you all for your help but especially to Richard for supplying the unlock code. If you're ever in Wiltshire Richard, drop me a line; I owe you a drink!

Could I be cheeky and make another request please. Does anyone has a spare manual for, or a copy of the manual for, the Becker Mexico CD stereo please?

I don't have a spare manual or the means to copy one, but if you need any info from the manual let me know.

Thanks JB; another kind member has helped me with the manual.
