greetings from glasgow, my wife and i are planning a luxury midweek break and are planning to come down your way for a few days next week, I am looking for some advice as to where to stay, we would like a nice luxury hotel with pool spa and a good reputation for food. any suggestions would be much appreciated, we will of course be travelling porsche power and look forward to experiencing the driving roads of your area . any suggestions as to which roads or routes are best would also be appreciated

Evening Dave, off the top of my head....you could do worse than Swinton Park,

http://www.swintonpark.com/index.html

Haven`t experienced the spa but the rooms, the restaurant and the grounds are something else.[:)] The surrounding countryside (and there`s a lot of it) is full of those glorious Dales roads you`re after.

Alternatively, there are many hotels in Harrogate. the big old spa hotels, namely the Majestic, the Cairn and the Old Swan may take your fancy, and although no solid recommendations here, Harrogate is a good base and the shopping is excellent for he missus.

Dear God I sound like a travel agent [8|]

Also check out the Devonshire Arms, again not sure about the spa facilities but otherwise, just the job and again it`s plonked right in the middle the best lower Dales driving.

The Dales is a big area, I`m familiar with just a bit of it and I`m sure somebody else will be along shortly with there own suggestions.

Here`s to you having a great trip,

Cheers Mike

This is the link to my place. I know its not what your looking for. But click on the hotels and accommodation link and it will give you loads of suggestions.

There are lots of good restaurants in Harrogate. I can recommend Bowers Bistro (James Bower is an ex Dorchester chef) or San Martino.

For Spas there is of course the Turkish baths in town - http://www.harrogate.gov.uk/immediacy-1100

or

The towns quite quiet next week so rooms should not be a problem.

If you looking for a good run out from here, I have directions of a run the Doug Sudron organised last year. Takes about 3 hours and ends at the Black Sheep Brewery. Masham.

Good places to eat in the dales. The Blue Lion at East Witton - http://www.thebluelion.co.uk/

The General Tarlton - http://www.generaltarleton.co.uk/

Enjoy

You could also try the Angel in Hetton--a first rate restaurant that now does very good standard accommodation

Steve
