Adapter for GT3 brakes

Guest

Hi,
I will try mounting GT3 mk1 front brakes on my 964 (C2 -91), but to do that I need to find adapters for the calipers (similar to those for Big Red). Anyone now if they´re available somewhere? Found some in the US, but 350 USD sounds a bit steep....

Many thanks,
/Tom

i was thinking about doing similar but just reading the bently / streather manual and noticed they advise fitting the C4 brake fluid reservoir as the C2 one wont hold enough fluid for big calipers and you may eventually run out of brake pressure, dont know if its happened to anyone though......

Adrian's book details are correct - the c4 reservoir is larger/bigger cylinder bore too, many good kits will upgrade this if moving from a c2 (or even I think the RS USA). I think the turbo calipers is as far as you go with a c4 setup - after that you would need a bigger system etc. Issue is filling the larger pistons when the pads are worn - if you run out, the hydraulic fails and.... If you do the brakes go to someone who knows all the options, esp if you plan to change the backs as well - that complicates even more. Caliper adapters are around £110 each so $350 is not so far out.

I'm sure i've read somewhere that the GT3mk1 front calipers are the same as the 996 turbo front calipers which have the same piston sizes as the 993 turbo big reds (or 928GTS big blacks). I've got big blacks fitted on my 944 and althrough the pedal travel has increased i've had no probs and i'm nowhere near the limit of my brake pedal travel. Once you're used to the longer pedal travel it's actualy better in terms of feel and modulation and makes for easier heal and toeing (on a 944 pedal arrangement at least).

There is a chap in Finland who has fitted the GT3mk2 front and rear calipers to his 944 (i.e. the huge 6-pots up front and pretty big four pots at the rear) and again has no problems with this setup. Looks the business though:-
