Adaptive Sports Seats

Looking at a car which is specced with them. What are they? Are they worth having?

Spizz

They are expensive sports seats with lots of electronic adjustment. Contrary to what their name might imply, they do not adjust on the move, unlike the Mercedes-Benz seats which do... I have them on my car, and I would strongly recommend that you drive the car for at least one hour to be sure you are comfortable in them.. Even at their most relaxed setting they can still tight across the back and thighs, depending upon your physical size..

Thanks Robert.

I am reasonably slender for my age - but with a bad back!

So a qualified yes. This is on a used car, so someone else has taken the pain on the expense.

Are they considerably heavier?

Spizz

They are the same shape as the sports seats, but are fully electrically adjustable. They have adjustable side bolsters which are about the most significant additional feature as you can bring in the width if you are particurarly slim. Overall I think the sports seats offer the biggest comfort & support improvement for the money at £260 more than the std seats. At a further £1420 over sports seats, the adaptable sports seats are certainly not cheap.

Deffo very nice to have on a used car, as for essential on a new order then that is down to the individual choice.

I would agree - if you are slim with a bad back then they would be desireable for sure.

ASS are the same as the Sports Seats, but have a far more extensive range of adjustments, so most people should be able to find a comfortable setting. They also have 'memory' for three drivers, essential if more than one person uses the car. Best to try them and see if the extra support is helpful.

I am of a "larger" size but still made a point of speccing them after driving a test car with them. For me they are a little tight across the back, but extremely comfortable otherwise.

In terms of adjustability, everything except for the length of the seat base can be adjusted. Both base and back seat squabs, lumber support (height and depth) and obviously base height and recline. The squab adjustment is only available on these seats.

I believe the memory is actually only for two drivers (button 1 is for the key memory) and with a wife who is half my size, essential (not that I give her much time to drive it mind you [:D])

on the 997 they are great-for my frame-14stone-and bad back they are absolutely fine and supportive-well worth it if they are on the car-much better than the 996 series seats which were tight for me in various areas!!![:D]

Also worthy of note is that the ASS offer slightly more legroom, I dont know why but they just go a little bit further back, which is obviously good for the taller drivers.

Ditto the comments of most. Seem like a very expensive option from new (favoured PSE + Chrono instead) but you shouldn't be paying any extra for them on used over a car without

Not an option I would miss off the list, best seats I have ever had.
I have a friend who sadly got blinded by Aston Martin marketing [;)] but still states the ASS are the best seats he has ever had the pleasure to rest his butt in [:D]

I should imagine they are heavier as theres quite a bit in them,
Oddly unlike Roberts mine do adjust whilst the car is moving.!!

Tickles me pink this,

Having justified a £70k car in the first place One must not spoil the plot with measly options.

Tick those boxes, the cost is soon forgotton but the irritation at not having specced what you wanted will last for years !

Yves

Wise words from YvesD I feel. The options are the value add to the whole experience, without ASS, short shift and PSE my car would be much more bland.

I think given the seats are the point where you have a physical contact with the car, then these are absolutely a must have. The ASS are a very nice option and I would not be without.

agreed
i ordered all the options i thought i would want this time and have no regrets....!well apart from the steering wheel -i am having the thick sports wheel retrofitted next week at £800+and booked in on the same day at opc are a 997c2 and a 997c2s!
much better to get it all as you want from the start-you`ll only hanker after it and pay more in the long run[:D][:D][:D]

Totally agree with Gary. 997 ASS has been the most successful option I could have spec'd and unlike Sports Chrono etc. are of benefit all the time you are at the wheel.
3 individual memory settings available - 1 for each key and the third on the memory button.

Clive

I think the point being made is that they do not automatically adjust according to driving styles, g-forces etc - they can definitely be adjusted on the move!!

True, after re-reading it I think your correct, however I bought a sports car so I don't need it to pinch my butt when IT thinks it needs to [;)]

Basically 3 types of seat available here.

The 2 Sports seats (standard or adaptive) are a huge improvement on the standard issue non-sports seats.

I have the sports seats in mine and they support very well. The non-sports in a loaner I had made me aware of the big difference.

Specing from new, then you need to ask yourself if the adaptives are worth the extra £1000+ over the standard sports seats.

Buying used, then that bullet has been taken by the person who spec'ed from new.

ASS are fab! - all the controls you could want and the opportunity to tweak position, firmness and support on long drives (the best type). I am a fairly slight build (5' 11") and the wife is similar. We both love them. The memory function means we can each get back to the perfect driving position in 5 seconds. Go for it.
