AdBlue - is this right?

The warning light alerting me that the AdBlue will run out in 1500 mile has come on, at just 6,000 miles.

So, two questions, is this an expected range ie 7,500miles for a 20 litre tankful? Doesn't seem a lot to me.

The handbook state that it should be AdBlue approved by Porsche and then states the ISO 2241-1 reference. This is a standard generic AdBlue available from garages as far as I can tell. I can't see it is a warranty issue as long as it meets the standard. So has anyone filled that tank themselves bearing in mind that it is corrosive and the Porsche bottles are specially designed to fit the tank filler.

Peter, that doesn't seem right, my Audi Q5 takes about 23 litres of AdBlue and the first time it needed refilling was at 16500 miles, 23 months after delivery.
I've subsequently refilled it myself with AdBlue I bought from motorway service area, as long as it meets the same ISO spec its no different to the product from Audi or VW or Porsche. However, to get the stuff into the tank I bought one of the special refill bottles from Audi then cut the bottom off so I could use it as a funnel after first screwing the bottle onto the filler neck to break the seal and allow the liquid to flow in. It's a bit of a faff but it worked without any spillage and cost a lot less than going to Audi, the only downside is knowing how much to put in but I did a mileage calculation to work that out. IF your Cayenne is saying 1500 miles to go then it will be virtually all gone or the level sensor is reading incorrectly.

Hi Peter,
I had the same thing happen about three weeks ago, my Cayenne has done 6500 from new so I was a-bit concerned to have the AdBlue warning light come on with a 1500 miles to go warning in view of the anticipated mileage the handbook states?

I took the vehicle back to the Porsche dealership, they topped it up FOC, they didn't provide me with a definitive answer when I enquired as to why it had happened so soon?

I'm genuinely very pleased with the vehicle, it will be interesting to note at what mileage the warning light comes on again.

Hi Chris
Yes, just the latest facelift model.

Co-incidentally I was at another OPC the other day and asked them about this very topic and they seemed to think that the tank was not completely filled when delivered from the factory. So I bought one 2litre bottle as per BigCat's advice and have ordered 20 litres online and will do the job myself. My OPC quoted £140 fro a refill - yes you read that right, including half an hour labour. No freebie there. I didn't even bother asking if that was plus VAT... At the OPC rates that's the equivalent of an extra 15p a gallon on the running costs!
It will be interesting to see what the second tankful achieves.

I googled it .I thought the latest way of redusing emissions was with an additive in the
actual engine oil ? or is that just part of the process ?
