How much is required to fill the tank when the red light shows?
How much does a Porsche Centre charge for the stuff?
Is there much to be saved by purchasing a 2 litre container to get the connector, then cutting the bottom off and using it as a funnel for to fill from a bulk container. You can generally buy it on the forecourts in 5 or 10 litre containers.
Is this worth doing?
Regards,

Clive

i recall on the macan owners forum the OPC price was around 70.00 for refill. Most seem to DIY though in the manner you describe Lancerlot.
How many miles have you done before the red light ?
Just topped up my oil at 2,500

Clive,

An alternative source for consideration [:D]

In a capitalist society, it's amazing what people can make money from. I gather it's used to overcome drug testing in US when applying for a jobs - no doubt ideally suitable for sports people too!
I've refrained from making the obvious comment - but it took great self discipline! :ROFLMAO:

Clive.

I did exactly what you describe, having been quoted £145 by the OPC.
2l bottle was about £7 from memory and 10litre containers from t'internet for about £20 delivered. Quite straightforward to do for a man of your calibre, but it helps to have a second pair of hands to steady the bottle when refilling from the 10l container.
I topped mine up at 7k miles but that's the Cayenne, of course.

Good info, thank you Peter.
Did you form an opinion on its ease of handling? Is it as corrosive as we're led to believe?
It's a 21lt tank in the Macan. How can you tell when it's full without spilling any?
Regards,
Clive.

It's quite ok to handle, I wore those throwaway nitride gloves, but tbh it wasn't difficult. I put an old towel round the filler in case of spillage and you can hear when it is approaching full, much like a fuel tank.
The Cayenne has a 26 litre capacity, I seem to recall, and I only managed to get in about 18 litres at 7,000 miles and there is some debate as to how full the tank is when leaving the factory. The filler and tank is in the boot area under the spare wheel btw. Is that the same for the Macan?

So, VAG do a filler hose (part no 000012499) for £8.51, which makes a perfect connection with the adblue filling point, plus, they sell 10L for £13.03, which is cheaper than anywhere I can find on the 'net.
The filler also screws nice & firmly on to the 10L container...

I seem to recall I paid around £10 for 10 litres from the forecourt of my local Shell garage. However, both sources are infinitely cheaper than the Porsche Centres! []

I can't believe OPC charge £145, my wife has just ordered a Macan so I was expecting an adblue top up during ownership, but I wasn't sure when. I have a fleet of trucks which run on adblue so I buy in bulk (5,000 litres at a time) I pay 27ppl but if the guys need to buy a 10 litre bottle down the road, it's £1 per litre. Some HGV forecourts have adblue pumps which may be cheaper than buying a bottle.

The one thing to be mindful of with adblue is contamination, only use the container it comes in and don't get any foreign bodies or other liquids in it as this will damaged the dowsing unit in the car when it's injected into the exhaust. If any of my trucks dowsing units fail the first thing the dealer does is check the adblue quality.

Funnily enough my OPC hasn't mentioned adblue on my wife's car yet!!!

Hi Clive and all, the Wife's Macan SD is now at 14,391 miles and we have still not had any indication of needing to top up ADBLU I have 20 Litres from a BP garage (which meets the Porsche Spec) taking up room in my shed. Perhaps I'll complete a tentative fill to see how much goes in and update all.

Just topped up the Adblue.
I purchased 10 litres off a Shell forecourt for around £13.
The container incorporates a flexible filler spout to facilitate the fill and it works well.
I don't think the solution is quite as hazardous as has been made out.
Job done, easy-peasy. [:)]

Clive
