Adding Options Later.. 987?

Hi Folks,

I am going through the process of buying an approved car at the moment, and as with buying any second hand car you very rarely get a perfect personal match wrt options......

I was looking at the Porsche website and I see the Techequipment link which details personalised options and it got me wondering is it a straightforward process to get these options added later? Especially something major like PCM..... etc..

I have some cars that are prefect match in some areas that are a nightmre to change later or something I feel I would not want touched, e.g. colour, interior leather etc. It got me wondering about other options and whether I can add them in later easily....?

Any thoughts or experience in this area would be much appreciated.....? costs etc.?

Thanks in advance
GG

Anything that you can screw on would be changeable, such as different wheel options, sports seats and so on (although I can not imagine that the latter would be even remotely good value). Anything else I would guess is either horrifically expensive or impossible - some extras can only be accomodated during the build schedule as there are wiring loom implications.

There are so many Boxsters on the market at the moment that I think if you sit it out you'd find the perfect spec.

Many of the options like OBC, Cruise, Rain Sensors, Autodip mirrors, etc, are retrofittable on the 986. PCM is retrofittable on the 987 (there is a TSB with instructuons), but it would probably have to be done by an OPC as it needs to be coded with the PIWIS, and not too many independents have these yet.

How much is a PCM retrofit for a 987?

I was going to get the latest pioneer satnav but it's nearly 3 grand, I'm happy to look like a chav if it's reasonably priced but for that money I'd imagine I'd be able to get the proper PCM.

I'm sure the labour on fitting the PCM will be crazy.

If you don't go for the top of the range Pioneer then this sounds like a very good deal fully fitted (no experience with this guys, just used google to find them):

I think the only difference between the AVIC-HD1BT (top of the range) and AVIC-X1BT is the harddrive.

I arranged for a Pioneer AVIC satnav system to be fited to one of our cars.

I have to say, it was superb.

Michael,
How well does it integrate with the MOST bus system and can you use the Porsche in-build mic slot (near the dials) for the phone system?
