Adding PCCBs

Hi Folks,

I have a 997 S Cab and I've just upgraded to Gen 2 look with GTS bodywork, looks the business now. I have the chance to purchase PCCB brakes (all four calipers) for a reasonable price. They have been refurbished and are from a 996 TT (which I believe my Gen 1 997S has 996 TT brakes already so should be a straight swap.

My question is what am I likely to be paying for the discs and pads (I've seen a couple of shops selling them for about 3 grand). Has anyone done this and was it a nightmare or easy enough?

I don't track the car so I'm not really looking for improved performance, it's more to do with aesthetics or spec of the car. So I don't need talking out of it from that point of view. I just want to know if it's technically possible and cost etc of discs. Should I look for a complete package? The offer I've had for discs all repainted and refurbished is £1450
 
The 997 isn't yet quite an age where large numbers of owners do these sort of modifications on a DIY basis, so maybe why no quick responses, our technical man is away on a driving event with us in Europe and I'm sure he'll offer some advice on his return.
I'd lived to have ceramics in mine but the cost has been prohibitive so far. Im not sure what it would actually do the value of a car that has been changed in such a way.
 
The ABS settings in the ECU are also different I believe, its not just a case of bolting on the parts.
 
I've changed my mind now. Even if I use the popular replacement discs that people use instead of Ceramic it's still going to cost at the very least 1,500 pounds for all the discs, and if I want cross drilled that it will be 600 per corner. Just too expensive I think.

There are details of the conversion here.

The cost of a full kit from Porsche is around £12K + VAT + fitting. It is possible to source the kit a little cheaper from the OPC in Jersey, if you are unable to reclaim the VAT, as the tax there is lower.

I don't know the cost of the rotors on their own, but your local OPC will soon tell you. You also need the appropriate mounting bells. The total cost will be substantial. [:(] Avoid second hand rotors since the latest are Level 3 and Levels 1 & 2 were inferior and prone to defects. It is very easy to be penny wise, pound foolish with brakes. I do not think the ABS will be affected.

As a matter of interest, this was an exercise I considered myself a few years ago when I had a Gen 1 TT, but abandoned the idea as not being viable. Long term, it was cheaper to sell the car and buy another with the brakes already fitted.[8|]

Probably not what you want to hear, but these are the facts. If your wish is to improve the braking, there are a numbers of steel rotor kits that will do this successfully and at significantly less cost. Several 997 Register members have gone this route and would no doubt be able to advise you if this is what you eventually decide to do.
