Hi Guys,

Where is your oil level pointer when driving? also when stationary?

Where is your oil pressure when driving? and when Stationary? And from a Cold Start?

Starting to get a bit paranoid with all these Dials.

Probably been asked a million times before but I'd like to compare

It is completely irrelevant where the oil level gauge points whilst you are driving - it doesn't matter and it doesn't mean anything. The ONLY time the oil level gauge is meaningful is when the oil is hot (i.e. thermostat open), engine IDLING and on level ground. Only THEN should the gauge show somewhere between 9 o'clock and full. This is the only time you can check the dipstick too.

Oil pressure, when hot should be around 1 to 1.5 at idle and 4.5 to 5 once over 2500-3000 revs. On a cold start oil pressure will invariably show 5 bar immediately and drop as the engine and oil warm up. If the oil gets very hot (10 o'clock) the pressure is likely to drop below this. Oil pressure seems to vary quite a lot from car to car so don't panic if it's not exactly the same on two like cars.

The thing that always worries me is that there is no security in checking the oil when the engine is cold and not running as there is in just about every other car. That concern in the back of your mind that you have to start the engine with, perhaps, no oil in it always worries me. You just have to have faith!!!
