Additional questions re: remapping

Remapping Questions:

What performance enhancements have there been in forum members cars? I enjoy the cars performance but have no plans for track days at present.
I also wonder?
1. Will the OPC know and will any reflash of the ECU wipe the remap?I.e. could it be switchable, allowing me to return the vehicle to factory settings prior to trips to OPC Glasgow?

2. Will the MOT people be aware of it?

3. Would the insurance company consider it a "modification". Could they even they even prove it was not original?

4. I do a lot of short local urban trips .. Returning the mighty 17/18 MPG. I wonder if there is any improvement in fuel economy in normal driving style?

okellyt and AlexL on this forum have the most experience with mods. to this model.

PM them if they don't respond here.

1.) I believe there is a piggyback chip on the market that can be removed to re-establish the status quo.

2.) Not unless it affects exhaust emissions.

3.) Yes. You should always declare any alteration from the original spec. We would not condone any element of deception.

4.) Many re-mappers do claim better fuel economy, but it is a fact of life that, if the claims for improved performance are correct, then you will be driving faster and using more fuel.

Regards,

Clive.

Early chips were physically removable separate EPROMS, which could be cloned and replaced. Modern systems are much more likely to be embedded as part of a wider network, and as such harder to locate and change without detection. However, see Greig's comments on your other thread.
