I'm getting near to the point of getting my S2 ready for sale and my advert will run something like this - but I'd appreciate any sage advice from you clever types!

1990 Porsche 944S2 in excellent condition - this is not your usual eBay tat with rusty sills and dodgy valve gear, it's a cherished, enthusiast-owned example.
Everything works, including the electric sunroof and clock, and is in a condition that belies its age. The car has covered 129k and the all-important (and expensive) items have been attended to recently. The car has had all belts and tensioners changed, including the important tension check after 1500 miles, new clutch, stainless steel exhaust and water pump all within the last two years. I have also fitted a bi-xenon HID headlamp upgrade to the car but this can be easily removed if you prefer the original look, as the original wiring loom was not altered for this upgrade.
The engine is smooth and powerful and indicates the correct hot and cold oil pressures.
The car is in titanium metallic with blue leather interior.
The car has a thick folder of history indicating the important events (including the cam chain linking the two cams) and still has all the extras indicating a cared-for car. The toolkit, sunroof bag and straps and the Porsche compressor are all present and correct and the collapsible spare is unused. The options sticker is also still present on the rear panel. The car also has all the original documentation, handbook, wallet, spare key etc.
A TOAD Thatcham immobiliser is fitted with certificate and spare fob.

Four new tyres 29/10/07 (less than 1000 miles ago).

Those that have done their research will probably have other questions so please call or email.

What do you lot think? I'm going to place the ad at £5000

The only things I could suggest would be to pre-empt the first questions I would ask if I was looking:

1. How are the sills? - Post some very clear, closeup photos of both sills and the front wings to try and address any rust worries. Very few ads show really detailed pics so you want to rise above the rest of the crud

2. Try and list dates and mileages of the major work that has been carried out. Look at the mini spreadsheet that Dave Malings has done for the maintenace in his advert in the For sale section.

If your car truly is rust free, 100% up to date with maintenance and absolutely everything works then you should be pitching it a little higher than your suggested price. Spring and summer are coming which is the best time to sell and if your car is better than most of the crud out there you should price it accordingly

Thanks Paul.

Yep, I'll certainly improve on the photos generally and will post some close ups of the sills and bottom of the arches.

Re. the maintenance, I was thinking of dumping all that info but might it make the ad a bit long-winded? Perhaps I should just say I can email more detailed history to prospective purchasers?

Yes I see what you mean, maybe hinting that it has a comprehensive history, which you're happy to email will be enough.

BTW I've never sold a car so don't listen to me too closely :ROFLMAO:

I'm with Paul, if you have documented history then list everything. At worst you could look a bit of an anorak, but it really does stand out from the usual "some service history" that you see so often.

I'd also go in at nearer £5.5 to £6k, but then we've seen the attention to detail you've put into the car from the forum. There are far worse cars out there at that price. I believe there is something to be said for going in higher than average to make people look closer at your car.

JMHO, and I've also never had any real success at selling a car so why would you listen to me! [&o]

All advice is appreciated!

OK, I'll do some better photos this weekend and then itemise the history that I have.

Small thing, but I'd say leather interior, and not mention the blue. We all know it's not an offensive colour, but it isn't necesssary in an ad and might put some people off.

Definitely more like £5950 (and take £5500) - if people want to pay £4k for one that needs £2500 to make it as good as yours, then you can save them the time and effort..[:D]

Hmm. Fair enough - I shall revise the price accordingly.

I shall definately arrange better photos once I blag a camera off somebody being, as I am, the only person in the western world without a digital camera. These were taken on my phone... [&:]

Hello Ian, i've been looking for an S2 for a while now and came accross yours this morning any chance of comming over to have a look at it? I live in Nottinghamshire so not to far from yourself.
thanks
Andy

Ha! Looks like that proto-advert may have worked quite well after all!

Andy - should you be reading this, from the posts that Ian had written over the last couple of years, that is one of the better S2's out there - if not one of the best.

Oli.

Very kind of you to say, Oli, but I haven't been a member of this forum for even one year yet!

Perhaps it just seems like it. [8D]

Hi Ian, I've now got to work on Sunday :-( So i've got tomorrow free or sometime next week tues/Thurs? or next Sunday

thanks Andy
