Advice after long lay up

I have a 2005 987, owned by me from new.
Full OPC services, the last one being a 'major', with brake fluid change, in 2017.
Since 2018, due to various resons, and Covid, has been laid up.
Garaged, covered, CTEK battery conditioner. Regularly started and warmed up. Also driven up and down the driveway (50m each way!) to ensure everything still works.

Mileage since last service 1K miles. Total mileage 32K miles.
Now ready to use it again.
What would be best to do?
Just get it MoT'd? Get it checked over by an indie? If so who, I am in East Lancs.
Not risking an OPC, as I value my arms and legs!

Thanks in advance for some wise words.
Peter

When was your last service?

Its obviously 4 years in lay up and sometimes a short warm up and drive whilst laid up can do more harm than good.

If you can't do anything yourself then obviously the first thing you have to do is get an MOT'd as you can't drive anywhere other than to a booked MOT.

If you want an indie to do the work and the MOT, then you can just drive it to them and leave it with them.

If you want the idie just to do the service checks before an MOT then the car will have to be transported.

In line with service intervals then its ...

Engine oil & filter change

Brake fluid change

Engine air filters

Cabin filters

Spark plugs - possibly, depending on when they were last done.

Auxiliary drive belt - possibly, depending on when it was last done.

All the suspension rubbers would need to be checked for any deterioration whilst laid up.

Brakes function.

Not au fait with older Boxster's but gearbox fluid depending on manual/auto and when last changed.

4 years is not a long lay up in the grand scheme of things but it is amazing how things quickly can deteriorate when not being used.

I have two classic MG's which have hardly turned a wheel since covid started.

Thank you Keith.

That was the sort of list I was thinking of.

Reason to avoid an OPC?!

I also had a 1960 MGA, which would have been laid up too. Seemed a shame, so I moved it on to a good home.

Thank you Eldavo,

They are only 10 miles from me. I pass them regularly and never knew they were there!

I'll give them a call.
