Advice and/or Views please!

[FONT=verdana,geneva"]Hi all... Need some advice from all the 997 experts out there...

I currently have a 993 C4S and am considering adding a 997 to the stable... I've been offered a 2004/54 C2S tip with 25k mls for about 30k. The car has Nav/Bose and a few other bits but no PSE and no Sport Chronom silver with blue interior and has a few months OPC warranty remaining. However, all 4 wheels need attention and there are some scuffs on the rear PU and the rear wheel arch.

Now question is whether the above car seems good value ? And secondly, if i was after a turbo tip, would low-50s secure a decent example ? Any views from the masses about the choice between the TT and regular 2S ?

My black 2007 turbo tip 997 is on the Hatfield OPC website now.

I would call it a great car as it was in great condition and had low 20k miles on it but the dealer paid a sum over £60k to get it from me so unless you mean a high mileage good turbo maybe 2006 with 35k plus on it I think low £50's might be ambitious for one of those, good luck though
 
simple answer is "NO" I am afraid-997 TT prices seem to have firmed up over recent months and i havent seen a "decent"example under 60k even at indis and nonspecialists(which i would avoid anyway)

C2`s early examples are as you say a different thing....lots in low 30`s

Thanks to both of you. Suspected as much but always difficult to judge just by asking prices.

So I guess then I'm going to be focussed on a C2s tip. Does 30k for a car that needs a couple of cosmetic fixes (and a service) seem reasonable ? As above, it doesn't have sport chrono or PSE.

Have you considered a 996 C4S and waiting for 997 Ttip prices to drop? The 997 prices seem to be holding I think due to a lack of any new model since the 997 MKII, plus new car sales are suffering. I assume they will dip sometime but not sure when. Although the 996 2003/2004 prices have dropped below the elusive 30K bracket. So you could get a loaded 996 C4S for the same cash as the 997 C2s - probably with a few grand to spare to spend on some carbon or brake upgrade?

I was lucky to find a loaded low mileage one recently with Aero kit, Sports Ex, Ali pack, T alloys, Satnav PCM2 etc and am VERY Happy with it..... I have also read the 996 C4S has the potential to become a future classic? so you may get back more than you pay for it ....... although if I did have the £60K I would go and get the 997 T tomorrow :0)

 
IMHO you should strive for a 997TT, otherwise a C2S with sports. Both with manual transmissions. I would avoid 4's and Tips like the plague. [:(]

996TT's are good value atm.

Hi - i used to have a 996 C4S, v high spec with low mileage (sold it to the guy who sits next to me at work!). I do love the look of the 996 C4S, think the red centre reflector and wide body are great. Friend of mine recently sold a low-ish spec C4S for 25k or so, which made me think the 997 2s i'm considering is good value at 30k ?

Because I'm thinking of keeping the 993 (1998 manual C4S), i think the 997 tip will be different enough as its less raw and easier to use as a daily driver (one or two days / week)...

Thanks Clive. Totally agree with you - in an ideal world i'd love to go for a 997TT.... just think that early-mid 60s means more downside in terms of depreciation vs the C2s @ £30k. I know its a balancing act and depreciation isn't the only factor, but want to try and buy 'sensibly' if possible!

Unfortunately need a tip as that was part of the negotiation with the boss at home (she's not too keen on manuals)! To be fair, we have two manuals in the household so easier to justify if we can both use it... That said, if it were up to me, i'd probably try to find a mint 993TT instead!

i am almost certainly going to add a 997TT in a yr or so.i wouldnt replace the 993 as i love the journeys in it that the 997TT would feel like a bmw in(no offence).because the 993 is lighter ,less powerful and nimble just driving it around locally is really fun in a way the modern ones arent -for me- because the opportunity to use that great power isnt there(where i live anyway)
BUT.....when the chance of an open road appears then the 997 TT is proper fun[:D]

so i plan to have both and best of both worlds-sounds like you need to do the same[:)]

Cheers mate! great minds... i made the mistake once before of selling a 993 and it'll take a lot to make me part with mine. Was lucky to find a reasonably low mileage example and i totally agree with you re driving experience. Just the sound of the air cooled engine...

So if the general view is that the 997 is good value at 30k, i may buy it and think of trading up to the TT next year... basically taking a punt that the 997TT will drop more than the 2S...


 
Hi there, Given the description of the car in question I would not describe it as good value. If it was sorted and it was £30k then maybe its a buy, but not as desribed.

I think at £26,000 its good value and at £28,000 it is worth considering. Best of luck in your search.

By the way given how much you will end up using the cars why not sell the 993 and put all the money into the Turbo tip you desire. You'll save the depreciation on two cars, service and insurance and have one fantastic car instead.
