hi Richard, I was wondering if you know how I could find out the distance exactly between the exhaust studs without actually having a head with the manifold removed for taking the measurement. I ask because after seeing a STOMSKI-SR065 tool for drilling out broken studs on the pelican website for a earlier aircooled 911, I have found a small engineering company who will happily make me a run of a similar tool for the 996. as my exhaust manifolds are slowly turning to dust I thought that it would be a good idea to have a tool for this in my toolbox. I would offer the remaining tools at cost on the forum to anyone who would want one. what are your thoughts on my idea? regards ray.

I don't know where you would find the dimension without actually measuring it. Maybe buy a manifold gasket, and measure that? Not as accurate as measuring a head, but it might be close enough. Other than that, try to find someone with a head off the car to measure it for you. If Alasdair (sulzeruk) is lurking here, perhaps he could oblige?
