I'm contemplating buying a 1982 Porsche 944 which is in need of renovation. My question is can anyone advise as to how difficult it will be to obtain trim parts; the dashboard has been butcher somewhat around the area under the instruments. I assume this area is made up from small trim pieces rather than the whole dashboard. The door cards and pull handles would need replacing, the boot carpet, gear lever, gaiter and the rubber strip on the back bumper. Your comments would be much appreciated.

Hi Wayne, and welcome.
You'll find a lot of parts for the 944 are still available from a main dealer at lower rates than aftermarket suppliers or online auctions, so worth a try. The parts catalogue is available here:
https://techinfo.porsche.com/techinfo/index.jsp
Workshop manuals are also available to download free from a couple of places.
The early car has the interior from a 924, so there's no shortage of parts available used. Finding really perfect used parts is always more difficult, as the youngest are well over 20 years old, but not impossible. There was a 924 bought recently for under £1000 that had an as-new interior.

Thank you for the reply Paul but the link you gave me does not appear to work unfortunately.
Strange - works for me! Can someone else try it? []

All of the catalogues are failing now...
Seems they are down at the moment. Workshop manuals are still free to download from Rick or Promax, which is cheaper than fleabay. []

Thanks
I mentioned at the beginning of this post that i'm contemplating buying a 1982 944, can you advise me whether the engine is 8v or 16v. I am also somewhat confused because i'm sure it had the oval dashboard with black instruments. I can also remember the glove conpartment was opened with a knob on the front of the dash and the glove box opened from underneath the dash. Can anyone shed any light on this?

1982 was the first year of the 944. It could only be the 2.5 8 valve, with the "square" dash.
1985 and a half was the changeover to the oval dash, 16 valve cars came in later. It's possible that a later engine would be found in an earlier car, but unlikely. More details please! []
I have purchased the 944 in question. It is a 1982 model but it would seem someone has fitted the oval dashboard with white instruments (not sure I like white). The rear bumper is damaged, can you advise as whether any bumper irrespective of year will be a direct replacement.

White dials are probably only an overlay. Nice to see another 1982 car being looked after! []
