Like all Porsche you should look to purchase by condition and not miles. The 968s are generally quite reliable but do have a couple of points to look out for.
One of the major points are the Cam shafts, these can suffer from wear on the tooth sprockets and can need replacement, I would say approx £300 each for parts.
The gearbox too can suffer from pinion 'wear' resulting in a loud noise in the 40-50mph zone, this again is about £800
Belts etc are much the same as the 944's so it does depend on if you need seals etc at the same time. One forum member was quoted about £1000 inc to do the front seals, belts and cam Chan. If your are happy to do the work yourself then a complete belt & roller kit again is sub £300, gasket set about £80 cam chain & slipper about £50. A few of us have had new clutches and flywheels, I had this done on my car, the clutch kit was £270 and flywheel £475 and was £200 to fit !
There is an artice in this months 911 & Porsche world on buying a 968. The one featured was Andrews, he had spent about £4000 getting his car sorted with a re-built head, clutch and flywheel.
Most of the 968ers hang out on www.968uk.com there is a great deal of 968 info there. Hope this has not put you off.
