Advice on buying an used Cayenne

Hi All,

Obviously new to the forum but wondered if some of you can share your valuable thoughts on the value for money on a used Cayenne I'm considering of buying tomorrow.

Details of the car as follows,

Model - Cayenne 3L Diesel 2010 (59 plate)
No of owners -1 owner from new
Mileage -42 K with FPSH and the car will be serviced again at Porsche once the deal has been agreed (previous service completed at 26K)
Extras worth £7K (Electric Sunroof, 20 inch alloys, PCM, Bluetooth, soft touch tailgate, heated Front seats, etc.)
Car comes with 12 months VW warranty and also 12 months breakdown cover.
It's sold by a reputable independent dealer and their asking price is £27k.
Would welcome your thoughts anything that I have to be wary of,

Thanks in advance,

Can't help on diesel front as have 4.2S myself. Just back from round trip to Provence and car was imperious, as usual. Re "yours", price seems on the low side for a diesel, but maybe I'm out of touch? Do check it out carefully, though,as they can be expensive when they go wrong!

Graeme,

Thanks for the prompt reply.

It comes with a full PSH and car looks clean and drives well. Hopefully it will not have any inherited faults and it's from a reputable private dealer - comes with a 12 month warranty too. So fingers crossed as I can't afford repair costs anytime soon :)

Would they allow you to have it inspected at a local OP at your cost? But bottom line if you feel they are honest and the car has no obvious nasties then the risk is low IMO

If your budget would allow, it would be worth considering a stretch to the second generation Cayenne Diesel. You would be spending more, but for a vastly improved model, with lower running costs and, likely, better residuals.

What I usually say on these queries is to check all the electrics work ok. I'm running a diesel now and have had no issues at all with it. At 42k the one you are looking at is barely run in so at the price it seems a decent buy (I assume it's not lime green with red interior [:D] ).

Good suggestion. I'm afraid that when it came to my own purchase decision all the sensible should do actions went by the wayside and heart ruled head. Mine also had full PMD service history being sold through a reputable dealer and I've not been disappointed. Costs to look out for? Tyres last around 15k miles, although have heard of shorter life, especially if tracking is out. Haven't heard of any specific diesel engine issues, so as long as evidence of regular maintenance is there you should be OK. Top tip, do negotiate with your local PC on work required, I've been impressed by the way my local dealer has been interested in my older Cayenne and offering a discount as a PCGB member.:) :)

Bottom line, nobody wants unexpected large bills, but Porsche ownership does carry a bit of a health warning. These are brilliant but potentially expensive cars and I would hate to see you end up with a financial headache but, as an old Motorsport friend used to say: you only get one lap of the track in life....!

Folks,

Many Thanks for all the excellent feedback and responses.

I went in yesterday with a view to pay a deposit and the car was sold to someone else!! They offered it to me for 26.5K and I said lets agree a deal at £26K; they said they had another potential buyer viewing the car last afternoon and they said they would bring down the price if it wasn't sold.
Having thought that this specific car was sat in the forecourt for 6 weeks or longer even, I thought I would take the risk, however the other chap bought it for the advertised £27K !!

I'm gutted to say the least!! But I'm infected with a Porsche bug now  - I will take a step back, calm down and look for another one in a few weeks' time.

Thanks again for all valuable comments.

There is always another one I have been looking for one as well.
However around a 07 plate running on LPG.

Agree as much as it's upsetting there will always be another car , I tried 5 times before I got the right car for the right price and I just can't believe how close i was to buying a RR because it was harder to find a Cayenne , they cost a lot more but are such an alround better car and hold their price , in fact I am informed they are the least depreciatiing car on the market

Sorry to see you missed the Cayenne.
The right car is out there waiting for you. It sometimes takes time to find it.
It took me a long time on the internet to draw up a short list and after about 6 months i bought my 2008 red Cayenne GTS and I'm loving it

Thanks all - No doubt I shall come back with an alternate car for your thoughts but just a matter of time - May be few weeks or months even :)
