Advice on function of keys.

As a new owner of a 2002 car, I am stumped by the remote operation of the luggage lid lock. The car has been hiding from salt/snow & ice for the last few weeks and now the button on the keys no longer opens the front compartment.
The car is parked under cover and on the battery compensator. The alarm/central locking 'goes to sleep' after a few days, as it should. However, after being unlocked with the key, the doors will lock with the button and set the alarm, but the luggage lock function has deserted me. Both keys are similarly affected.

Any ideas?

think it's still asleep, don't you need to actually put key in ignition and turn position 1 to awake ?? could be wrong, but that's what I've been doing.

If the remote is working on the doors it is definitely out of sleep mode. It sounds like it might be the button on the remote, which is quite a common problem. Take a look at Min's DIY repair in the Technical Articles section.

Thanks for your help. I'll venture into the garage, when the temperature creeps above freezing. Got to say, Min's post (which I should have noticed before) is very detailed.

Paul.
