Advice on laying up my car

Winter approaches and my 944 doesn't have a garage to live in.
Are there any things i can do to protect body/chassis /engine etc during the winter when it will probably only get used once a week if its lucky.
I see cars under these covers but I always thought they were actually a bad idea?
Would welcome advice.

why only use once a week? If it has to sit outside I would use it every day if you can, it will be much better for it than sat under a damp cover.

WHS. The cars I have used daily (but hosed off often) have often outlived previous projects that have stood doing only a couple of hundred miles a year. Even garages are not perfect unless you are sure they are moisture free.

I would use it as often as the weather lets you and I wouldnt use a car cover.I did previously and found the car sweats and retains damp unless you buy an expensive breathable cover.
I ended up renting a garage either through the council or local paper ads you may find one available nearby?

If you use a car cover make sure car is cold and copmletly dry and unless you can take it off regularly I wouldn't bother.
One proviso is if it lives under a tree (like mine does) and I will use one if I can use it as above.
I use mine regularly except when its icey so the cover doesnt get much use!
Also you get a puddle forming on the spoiler andn unless it is TOTALLY waterproof water will find its way through. I have a frame I i put on the window to stop that!

The puddle in the rear spoiler can be dealt with very easily. Look for the channel being blocked up in the rear spoiler with a zip tie or something similar and the puddle will no longer exist (my spoiler used to be a swimming pool a few weeks ago).

Sorry if I was unclear.
I maen the puddle forms on the cover and the moisture finds its way thru' the material leading to condensation under the cover.

Hi Steve I do not know what part of the country you live at , but what you can find nowdays is all these apartments that are been built in the City centres , a lot of the residents do not have cars so they do not use there dry underground parking spaces , so you could post some leaflets stating you are intrested in long term parking for a reasonable fee !! failing that build a garage mate !!

I am lucky enough to have a nice garage/workshop but am using it to sort and garage my MK1 Golf track day car so I used one of these to store the 944T when I had it and its now got a `spare` Mk 1 in it.

Force 8 gale proof and with a DPM on the floor is totally dry with good ventilation. Not cheap but not expensive and will always have a re-sale value. Recommended.

Thanks guys. I was really thinking in terms of things to do to the car like rustproofing, care of tyres, any engine care like with the fluids/battery etc. I used to have a Lotus Excel and stored it in a council garage. The interior developed mould very quickly but I did leave it for about 3 months without checking!
