Advice on oil top up

Hi all. I’m after a bit of advice on topping up oil. I’ve a 2021 718 Cayman GTS that’s done 4200.

The other day the Minimum Oil Level warning came up and the oil measurement showed yellow at the min level and "Max 1.0 l to refill oil. Pos to drive on”. It also said it needed an oil service.

After looking on line and speaking to Porsche the recommendation was to add 500-750ml which I’ve done, adding 500ml. This has cleared the warning message and reset the oil service interval to next December, but the oil measurement is still showing the same.

It’s now booked to go into Porsche on the 24th December but any advice/thought appreciated.

Thanks

Kerry

Sounds a bit odd. You shouldn't need an oil service until the car is two years old. The top-up warning is perfectly normal and 500-750ml should put the level back to 3/4 or 4/4 on the scale.

It sounds like you have a sensor issue of some sort?

Definitely a fault then! I''ve topped up my oil 3 times in the last 21 months and never has it said oil service required. My car's first service is due in March.

I agree with Dave’s comments Kerry. Most likely it’s an oil sender fault, although the “oil service due” message is odd since that’s not due for 2-years/20,000 miles. Nothing to be done until your dealer runs some diagnostics to see what’s happening.

It’s good practice to check the oil level on a regular basis, weekly say for a daily driver. That way you’ll get an idea about your regular oil consumption and be suspicious of warning messages such as the one you’ve received.

Thought I'd just bring this to a close now everything is sorted.

So, after a phone call and discussion with my local OPC where they concluded the same, that something was up, it went in on Tuesday morning and issue was quickly sorted....

They put more oil in, 200ml to be precise!

Lesson of the story, put 700ml in when reaching the minimum oil level :)

At least it was nothing more than a trip to the OPC, and a chance to lust after a GT4 :)
