Advice on potential purchase

Folks,

can anyone give me some guidance on this vehicle which I'm considering as an everyday run-around.

It's been a LHD which has been converted to RHD to it's not an 'original' car.

should the 2.4E be running on Zenith carbs? i.e is this better or worse if non standard set-up?

it is a well known DDK members old car. Barry who restored it is a superb body man. Pop over to DDK & Barry will answer all your question
 
The E engine should run on mechanical fuel injection (MFI) which is fabulous but difficult to find or have repaired. The car is a T so is it really an E engine on carbs or a T engine (which should be fitted with carbs but much less powerful).

Looking at the pics there look to be a number of things not original, for example it has black window surrounds instead of polished aluminium. It also looks to not have the 72 oil filler on the rear arch.

Other than non originality it looks nice and if people on DDK vouch for it that is a good start.

Barry is a friend of mine. The car is not orginal but it's not being sold as such so that's a good start.
The work that has gone into that car is pretty impressive. I'd certainly recommend considering it.

Just another couple of further items to note.
You can change the wiper crank around so that they park out of the way when looking through the windscreen.
If it has indeed been changed from LHD to RHD this is BIG and I mean BIG money.

The only way to be sure is check the chassis number stamp into the floor of the luggage compartment and at the same time open up the steering joint inspection hatch next to the chassis number.
It will be then pretty obvious if a conversion has been done.

If the car is an E it will run 8.5 cr up from 8.0 so it will have touch more power then the T with 130bhp. The E wth MFI has 165bhp.

Either way if the body work is good then this is the most expenseive bit done as bodywork vapourises £50 more than anything else.

The car is also good because it has no electric sunroof or windows. So it will be lighter. That is why Porsche always took the T as the base car to go racing e.g T/R models.

For me lightness is king.

Barry (the restorer) wrote a couple of articles for my register section of 'The Post' about his resortation a year or so ago . . . . . incredible when you see how it started off (80's flatnose conversion).

I gave him a special prize at Beauliea pre 74 day . . . . basically a 'well done'.

Yes the car is not concours original . . . but I was impressed. Shame the current owner is selling so soon after buying it.
