Advice on Targa wheel refurb.

After todays little episode with my rear tyre letting me down i have decided to replace all the tyres with a new set of Continentals.
Now i have bitten the bullet on new tyres i would like to re-furb my Targa split rims and have bought a full set of new split rim bolts with a view to re-furbing them myself, I have all the neccersary equipment to prepare and paint the wheels and i am confident that after 30 years as a Car Painter i can get as good a finish as anybody, what i am not to sure about are the possible pitfalls of doing split rim wheels, i have been given the correct Torque settings for the new bolts and a good friend of mine can re-tyre the rims when i am finished, do any of you clever chaps have any horror stories with Targa rims that might put me of my project or any useful advice to help me.

Hi,

Spoke to Porschapart rcently about reconditioning some split rim sport classic wheels. They said it is very tricky getting the titanium bolts out and if one breaks it is no joy at al trying to drill out . So go gently! Just a thought. !!!!

Thanks Simon.

Hopefully because they are nut and bolt type and not threaded through the wheel this shouldnt prove too difficult, i did try one before i left work on Friday and that one came out quite easy so fingers crossed.
Thanks anyway.

My Targa rear split rim leaked air! I took the wheel to ' Belmont Metals' of Old Dalby, Leics. Simon the owner worked his magic and £20 later the wheel is perfect. No leaks at all..
Simon refurbs damaged alloys at £50 per wheel.
