Advice on tuning 944T

Assuming all goes well on the rollers with my standard 944T I am thinking of going down this root -

Tial 38mm wastegate with fitting kit £250
Maxhpkit chip set £150
Boost controller £35
3 bar FPR £35

Comments please, worthwhile? Better value elsewhere?

Also bear in mind I am unlikely to go any further tuning this car so put gizmos on for future enhancements will probably not be worthwhile.

Good prices?

Rich

Sounds very sensible to me

Talking to Jon Mitchell a few weeks ago, that was exactly his recommendation for my car - with his chips of course [;)]

You'll get most of the mid range kick with a boost enhancer & a chip, but how much boost you can hold depends on the state of your wastegate. I'd get an extra 20+ hp if I could hold 17psi, as mine is a factory w/g @ 11'ish psi & maybe would get boost a bit earlier as well (In Jon's opinion).

The other option is a MAF (I noticed Vitesse are having a Stealth MAF sale for $1095) - but it's probably a secondary consideration. Mind you, once you've been at the RR day, I bet your thirst for upgrades won't stop there [:D]

Hi Rich, it seems a straight forward plan and incorporates the main thing of replacing that old stock wastegate which will be leaking boost like crazy. I don't know of anyone who has fitted MaxHP chips here in the UK but they certainly seem to rave about them on Rennlist.

You will also need an auxilliary boost guage so that you can accurately set the boost level with the boost controller and with the standard K26/8 turbo it will still probably roll off a little at high RPM. Do you know what level you plan to run at, 15psi or even 18psi?

Hve fitted a boost gauge already - neat little digital thing it is - could almost use it to replace the clock.

Plan to run at 15psi - try and look after the head gasket - as far as I can...

Rich, I've just been searching back a few years when some of us were at the same point as you and here are a few threads showing how we tested our old tired wastegates (with and without shims)

and here is a thread when a few of us had bought TiAL wastegates as part of a groupbuy, installed them and also tested the pressure they would hold

Enjoy [:D]

Hi Rich

Good to meet you yesterday, I`m leaving the DIY aside and fitting the wheels today. Thanks for standing by the deal. See you at the rollers of truth?

Regards

Paul

What boost pressre are you planning to run? It might be prudent to consider upgrading injectors to 55lb or more if you are running much over 1 bar boost.
