Hello Everyone.
As a long time Porsche owner (and Club member), mainly with air cooled 911's, plus a couple of 944's, I'm considering acquiring my first 996. The difference this time is that it will be my only car, rather than weekends only, and will cover around 15k pa. Having read up on various articles and performance statistics it looks as though the 'facelift' version is preferable to the 3.4 variant. The 4S model looks more desirable too, although I'm not sure my budget will stretch that far. What I would appreciate is some advice on things to look for (and look out for) when I start searching in earnest in a couple of months time. For instance, what are the pros and cons of 2WD vs 4WD; should I look only at Porsche specialist dealers, would I be wise to employ someone like Peter Morgan to check out any potential purchase; are there any particular options that are desirable; are there any specific reliability issues that I should watch out for; should I be looking for as low a mileage as possible, or is service history more important; and finally, my inclination is for a manual gearbox, but should I try a tiptronic version? I'm sure there are many other points to be aware of, so I would really appreciate any assistance from you experienced owners.
Thanks in anticipation,
Richard
