Can anyone shed any light on a couple of issues I have, I have just removed all four discs and replaced with new ones and spacers and all looks well, however the car now won't start. The engines turning over but not even trying to fire, it was running ok beforehand and removal of the wheels and discs is all I've done. The next issue is whilst trying to find a solution I've found my waterpump is knackered, I've started to strip it out but it looks like the rear engine hanger has to come out to remove it, is that the case? Thanks in advance for any advice or sympathy.

This should help with the water pump: http://p-car.com/996/diy/waterpump/

As for why it doesn't start, have you checked the obvious, like fuel pump fuse? The DME controls the starter and spark, so that must have power if it is cranking, so I think the next thing to check is fuel supply.

Thanks Richard,
I managed to get a water pump and fit it today so that's sorted, as for the other problem my mate came round and run a diagnostic check, nothing registered so that'll be tomorrows challenge. I will keep you posted as to what I find. Thanks again.

Had you just started the car up from cold and turned it off without running it for long? If this doesn't apply just ignore the rest of this posting!

My 996 would not start recently. I had moved it out the garage and turned off the engine as I have done many times before. When I came to start it again it just turned over but did not fire up. I tried it a few times but as I was concerend about draining the battery I called the recovery service.

When the chap came round he thought the most likely problem was that, although there was no smell of petrol, it was flooded. He told me that he had seen this problem before and even leaving the car for several days the petrol was still there. All he did to start it was turned it over continually for a minute or so and eventually the engine kicked into life. I haven't had this problem with my Ford which I am regularly starting up and only moving a few feet so I can get the 996 out of the garage. Best of luck.

I've not had this problem with my Porsche, but my Audi A4 V6 suffered from this a lot, so now I always run the engine, on all of my cars, for 2 minutes, if just moving them around my parking lot.
Normally the only way to restore service is to remove the spark plugs and dry them out []

Hi Steve,
I hadn't seen your post until I'd stripped and cleaned just about every electrical connection on the car, took bloody hours and then nothing. It doesn't seem right to just keep turning the engine over, it sounds horrible, it was only after seeing your post that I kept it turning over for longer, it just started trying to fire then the battery went. A few hours of charging and we have life. Thanks for your help gentlemen, it's much appreciated.

I had the same problem but I thought it was a battery issue as it had not been used for a few weeks. Charged the battery and started first tickle!
