I have for some time had a strange problem with my main/dipped headlights in that when I flash the headlights and let go of the stalk the headlight go really dim (much lower than dipped beam) and the only way to recover them is to put the right indicator on or move the stalk to full beam and then back. Northway have diagnosed it as a faulty switch on the column but I believe this is an all in one with the indicators/stalks etc and they are quoting aroung £130. Is it worth me trying to get a second hand one and how difficult would it be to fit or shall I get a quote from Exeter OPC for a new replacement?

Takes about 30-45 mins to fit as you need to remove the steering wheel.
There are a few versions, but if you have neither Cruise nor Headlamp wash, then you can use any of them.
They come up on ebay for around £20 - £40, but just make sure the indicator cancel works, as this is the bit that usually goes wrong.

Might be a problem with your stalks, but more likely the pump. I can't remember ever using mine either!
I have now been forced into doing something with this as the MOT has picked it up and having failed to find a secondhand switch I have turned to Exeter OPC. Spoke with Chris who was very helpful and explained that I don't have cruise control but do have headlamp washers. He informed me that the part has been superseded by a 928 numbered part and that I would also need two oval headed screws because of this. He thinks he remembered Fen changing to this part on his car a little while back and suggested I ask him what was involved. If you are reading this Fen and it was the case can you let me know if it was straightforward and what was involved. Just to let you know as well he can do me the switch (and the two screws) which should be £144.37 + VAT for the same price inclusive of VAT and free postage which sounds pretty good to me!
I bought a new one from Exeter a few months back as I got sick of the indicators not cancelling. To be honest it was on order when my engine grenaded so it's still in a box in the back of the car. That doesn't mean it's available as I will fit it before I use the car again, but it does mean I don't know how it's different if it is. Actually I think I specified one without headlight wash as I have removed that from my car.
Thanks very much - typical though that I have been keeping an eye on ebay for quite some time and haven't seen any oval dash ones advertised and the moment I order a new item one appears! Hey ho - at least it is brand new so should work well! Thanks for the reply as well Fen.
